GOGS...Grumpy Old Gits Society..

after all the years of suffering being called a miserable old bar-steward by mrs zz , I am finally rejoicing that she has come round to my way of thinking. the source of this wonderment?... a newly found joint loathing of the foul phenomenon of otherwise seemingly intelligent individuals starting a sentence with the word "so"!!!! if you have been asked , "how do you propose to re-attach that button"? , or , "what method would you use to distribute seed in your garden" , fair enough but otherwise , nooooooooooo! other current hot favourites are "yoofs" with their kecks hanging out the top of their trousers and newly qualified drivers with a green p plate (clearly designating pillock) who refuse to commit to crossing a roundabout without having received a written invitation at least a fortnight in advance! what gets your hackles up?

Wasn’t it Plato who complained about the modern day youth? Some things never change, only we change into grumpy old gits :)

The modern world is virtual, everything has to be published on the social media. Everyone they know put their pregnancy on the web, so not doing so would make you a social outcast. Meeting the expectations made by the rich and famous with their extravagant behavior makes it very stressful. I don’t envy them, when I was at their age life was much more relaxed.

So I just show up at those parties and behave nicely, as ordered by SWMBO, I am able not to be grumpy for a few hours. Mostly some ‘blackmail’ with a new car is involved ;)

I am neither brave enough or stupid enough to argue with SWMBO, going with the flow is the easiest route through I've found.

She's at the tennis club five times in the week, I'm still happy to cover part time at school, and be at the slot club twice a week,so that's a nice balance to minimise any potential conflict, difference of opinions etc.

I've found slot cars can easily take you back to very happy times, RAC rally in the seventies, group C at LM in the eighties etc.

We had a session in school on future careers for the current year 11s last week, it's forecast they may well have ten different careers in their working life, god knows at what age they'll get their pensions.

Anyone currently in training for a spot of jewellery robbery could do worse than trying to open a packet of Waitrose crumpets. What a fiasco. Three minutes of my life, which can't be retrieved, spent wrestling with a plastic packet! I suppose I might try my luck with an inland taipan next. For crying out loud.

Scissors = packet open in 2 seconds

SO here's a question...how do you like your crumpets toasted...I like them after the toaster has popped them up 3 times, nice and dark brown

Next question, butter or no butter?

Then, cheese or marmite?
Finding a scissors with Mrs Grumpy about? More chance of changing my name to Errol and organising a conga at a funeral.

Crumpets are best for me when overly toasted and splattered with allegedly unhealthy quantities of unpasteurised Swiss butter.

Think one of the supermarket chains has removed Warburton's products, including crumpets from it's range, can't remember which though.
We here in North Staffordshire have a local favourite, oatcakes, not like the Scottish variety, these are like a savoury pancake, usually rolled up filled with melted cheese and your choice from sausage, bacon, egg, beans, mushrooms.

I think you may be correct about Plato complaining about youth, Henk.

If my memory serves me, he also used to complain about Matt Neil and awful lot too!

As for crumpets.......Ratheeeerrrrrr!
Hot so they burn your fingers, firm enough they don't act like a jelly on a tumble drier and tasty enough you always want more.

I like the ones only requiring butter as they turn out to be much, much cheaper!

More tea Vicar?

I like mine crispy with butter or melted cheese:love:
The gender-reveal party...........
YAAAAAAY! :D Wor Lass wasn't 100% sure about it, but this morning she's come-round to my way of thinking. We ain't going.
Mind, she said she'd rather not know until the actual arrival. With the best will in the world once it's "out there" she will know not very long after the official announcement.

In general terms;- spoilers about anything and everything being plastered all over the internet, government leaking up-coming announcements to the press, baby gender being known well before the birth........... Whatever happened to the concept of surprise?? Yet another reason I dislike living in the 2020s. :(
Crumpets, toasted just right, a nice brown but not over done. Lots of butter left until it's run all the way through so I can mop it up as I eat them. The wife would put Marmite on 🤬
I'm a butter & Marmite fiend
Butter and Golden Syrup in this parish . . .
I look like I eat lots of crumpets ..... but I don't.

In searching for crumpet and racing and Rolls Royce from this and another thread, I think I may have confused the PC brigade and the Search engine totally, as this little gem popped up.

One of the few times a Scottsman other than Mr Jim Clark beat Mr Graham Hill and Mr John Surtees in a race (watch closely in the early part) before passing his driving test !!

Worth a look if in need of cheering up from a grump.

The mini and MGA were probably BMC press cars on loan looking at their registration plates.
In the early hours of this morning my neighbours Ford Kuga was stolen off their driveway by the quietest of criminals. I have no idea how but suspect thieves must have had some form of key for the car. There was no evidence of snipped wires or broken glass on the driveway.
They're pros these days , know what they want and where it's parked.
The growth trend is now car cannibalisation, typically humdrum but worthy commuter cars are parked, such as a Corsa, Aygo, Citigo etc, owner comes back to find the front end missing, bonnet, bumper, headlights, gone for a cheap fix of a car that's got a minor front prang.
Vans are a great target of late as well, transit custom seems popular choice.

Did they have keyless entry? Because it’s easy to catch the signal and then use that to open and start the car.
Here people are advised to keep their keys in a tin can, so the signal can not be found.
