GOGS...Grumpy Old Gits Society..

after all the years of suffering being called a miserable old bar-steward by mrs zz , I am finally rejoicing that she has come round to my way of thinking. the source of this wonderment?... a newly found joint loathing of the foul phenomenon of otherwise seemingly intelligent individuals starting a sentence with the word "so"!!!! if you have been asked , "how do you propose to re-attach that button"? , or , "what method would you use to distribute seed in your garden" , fair enough but otherwise , nooooooooooo! other current hot favourites are "yoofs" with their kecks hanging out the top of their trousers and newly qualified drivers with a green p plate (clearly designating pillock) who refuse to commit to crossing a roundabout without having received a written invitation at least a fortnight in advance! what gets your hackles up?

Someone at the department for lack of transport has found fifty pence on the pavement.
They've called in at Lidl and bought a brain cell, now the department has two functioning cells.

Rumours are in circulation and not denied, that they are thinking of delaying or maybe scrapping the rebuilding of Euston for HS financial black hole.
Quite why you needed two stations in London, Euston and Old oak common, taking vast swathes of expensive land and only 5 miles apart has always eluded me.

They are also considering delaying the whole scheme by five years, couldn't make it up could you.

The gender-reveal party.
YAAAAAAY! :D .................... We ain't going.
Oh yes we are! The Angry Ukrainian has been on the 'phone complaining that we are being disrespectful if we don't.
This is how our life is going to be for the foreseeable. I would gladly tell her to sling her hook - I can live with it if she never speaks to me again. But the unfortunate truth is that she won't just cut me off, she will assume Wor Lass to be guilty by association and cut her off too........ Which, in turn, means that the spineless husband will stop contact with his mother.
You think I'm exagerating?......... Before the war, something happened within their family and the whole lot of them fell-out with Mrs.Angry's uncle and his family. The last I heard about them was "Hopefully they will all get hit by a Russian bomb".
The is always a solution to awkward recalcitrant folk, Stuart. One hour with uncle Bonkers and chums, and I guarantee years of undisturbed peace. Most people make a run for it.
I was afeared, when step-son announced that things with his Ukrainian bint were getting serious, that there could be culture-clash issues. Other members of our side of the family have started noticing it and commenting on it now.
I, for one, was kind-of hoping that she would be more settled and more accepting of - if not adapting to - the British way of life 4 years down the line.
It also doesn't help that step-son is turning into a Ukrainian. He seems to prefer to live to their standards rather than encourage them to fully integrate.
How can you have a gender reveal party?. Surely that can't happen until the new human has made up its/hers/his/their mind!

Funny how the brain works....what's left of it.

I woke up suddenly last night and realised that I had committed a cardinal sin and put an apostrophe in 'its' and 'hers' when it is the possessive. I just had to get up and correct it:rolleyes:
Get grumpy with that mega department store in the sky. They are very good at next day or even same day deliveries but don't seem to be able to keep to a delivery day if it's anything else and always seem to want to delivery early. I found a item of kitchen furniture I wanted yesterday morning but it was for next day delivery if ordered within six hours and todays not good for me so I waited till yesterday evening when the delivery was listed as tomorrow, Wednesday, and placed the order. Just before 10pm I get the order confirmation confirming a Wednesday delivery then about 30 minutes later I received another email telling me that delivery would be today, Tuesday, why? On the website it still said delivery Wednesday but just to be safe I re-scheduled the order and the earliest day was Thursday, so now I have rearranged what I was planning to do on Wednesday and Thursday. This morning I get an email advising that the item has been dispatched and that I can't make any changes and delivery is due Wednesday but on the website it has delivery as Thursday. Now I don't know when I'm getting the delivery but hopefully it will be Thursday. Is it so difficult to realise that people can't always take a next day delivery and they select a certain day because that's when they are available 🤬

Yet again I'm having trouble with an online slot supplier's checkout. Yet again, it's the same issue.

Everything goes swimmingly until the accursed payment authentication. It asks me where I want the one-time passcode sent to. I give it Wor Lass's mobile number..............

....... and I wait, with the mobile in front of me.

....... and I wait

....... and I wait

So I hit the "resend passcode" link.

[re-read paragraphs 3, 4, 5 & 6]

I've now been waiting over an hour.

If I knew of any other source of the parts I need, I'd take my business elsewhere. It really is getting stupid now. It doesn't help that said supplier doesn't respond to either e-mails or 'phone calls.

If it's a bank and they don't have the number on file they may not sent to the number. I had this problem a good while ago when I change service provider and number. I had to phone the bank and get the logged number changed before I could do anything on line that needed a OTP.
Now I'm really charred-off!

I tried calling the helpline number on the authentication page. It wants me to enter my debit card details. Really?? Aren't we told, on a regular basis, not to do that?

Now the basket has timed-out.

They have the right number, and also our landline number. I've tried getting it sent to both. Unsuccessful.

I'll have to bite the bullet and put the purchase on PayPal, I suppose. I'm starting to wonder if it's a ploy by the retailer to get everyone to use PayPal. Every time I've bought from them for roughly the last year this has happened.
Must admit I never buy online unless the retailer accepts PayPal unless I really have to, even with retails I know and trust. Don't like giving my card details out anymore than I have to.

PayPal’s my preference these days - Mr.Musk’s single success?
Since top slots and MRE have finished it's difficult to get bits now there's only one retailer, popular parts for racing seem to be regularly out of stock.

I have a prepaid debit card for such occasions. Nothing there to "swipe"
Quelle surprise! After I had gone to bed, half a dozen texts came through. This would have been getting-on for four hours after I tried to place the order.

Every time I've bought from them for roughly the last year this has happened.
....... And it never seems to happen with any other online retailers. The text usually comes straight through within seconds, first time every time.

I've noticed ^^^ this, too. It's getting like buying groceries from Lidl or Aldi.......... Once they go out of stock of an item, it takes ages to be re-stocked.

Do to out off stock problems I have been buying bits from Spain, if want a fair bit, and not had any out off stock problems. Postage tends to be about three times as much as UK but the prices seem to be cheaper so I have saved money on my last two orders. With my last but one order I placed an order in the UK and another via Spain to get the UK out of stock parts and the order from Spain arrived before the UK second class postage order.

The gender-reveal party.
The Angry Ukrainian has been on the 'phone complaining that we are being disrespectful if we don't go.
At which point it was explained to her that we have a previous commitment that day. After her last tantrum, when Wor Lass backed-down and said she (....or, potentially, we - depending on if I have to work the following day.....) would go but can't get there until mid-afternoon at the very earliest.
This morning, Mrs.Angry has been on the blower saying that they are putting on lunch and we need to be there by 13hr00.
I asked her which part of "we have a previous commitment" is she struggling with, and I would explain in the simplest terms possible.
To which she replied "This is your grand-child (blah, blah, blah)........." I muttered quietly "Not my grand-child", but I think she may have heard.
