after all the years of suffering being called a miserable old bar-steward by mrs zz , I am finally rejoicing that she has come round to my way of thinking. the source of this wonderment?... a newly found joint loathing of the foul phenomenon of otherwise seemingly intelligent individuals starting a sentence with the word "so"!!!! if you have been asked , "how do you propose to re-attach that button"? , or , "what method would you use to distribute seed in your garden" , fair enough but otherwise , nooooooooooo! other current hot favourites are "yoofs" with their kecks hanging out the top of their trousers and newly qualified drivers with a green p plate (clearly designating pillock) who refuse to commit to crossing a roundabout without having received a written invitation at least a fortnight in advance! what gets your hackles up?

Good luck to you and Wor Lass, Stuart. I understand from a chum of Mrs Grumpy's, who has a Ph.D in a related field, that quite large quantities of carbohydrates are important in fighting the illness. Keep energy levels up, and gloominess down.

I've just eaten a vitamin laden salad and Mrs Grumpy's plum crumble with custard. Feel fab but post-prandial sleep will possibly fall shortly.

KBO.

It occurred to me recently that Dark Side of the Moon and Tubular Bells are half a century ago, or a century ago between 'em.

One part of the theory of entropy is gaining energy through movement. Can't claim I've noticed. Too busy warming my b*m by the fire. David Gilmour knows what he's on about.

If he was responsible for the album title he doesn't know his astronomy though - there is no dark side of the Moon.

Ah, but have u listened,at the end of the album the voice says there is no dark side of the moon.

Floyd interchange, Silverstone in the eighties, a classic meeting, me sitting on a grass Bank to watch, quiet meeting, not too many spectators, Nick Mason racing, think he was running his old Maserati, guy next to me was Dave Gilmour.

Just general old car chat led to Dave telling me about his Mustang, not the one with four wheels, the one with wings, tells me his source of spares is Columbian drug barons, they had been using Mustangs with drop tanks to transport and deliver at low level their recreational pharmaceuticals

Government data has been released, according to the Gruaniad, concerning air pollution particle release on the roads.

52% of small particles comes from tyres and brakes, 24% from road surface abrasion and wearing of painted lines.
That leaves 24% coming from exhausts.

Now as I understand it EVs are heavier than ICE vehicles, I honestly would have thought that meant it's leading to more particle release from tyres, brakes, road surface, wonder why the green brigade aren't quoting these facts and come to think of it Dick Turpin, sorry I meant sad eek Khan't.

Who knows - all I know is that, living in a city, particulate pollution is higher than it was 10 ago - the ---------- who make policy and consider it ‘Green’ for vehicles to lug round heavy batteries, causing more wear to roads, tyres and brakes need to be called out but the EV lobby is where all the money resides.
Even this area has full access to our junior members - please watch language. Thanks.

Is this because every @#$% has a PM 2.5 widget on the coffee table  All the keyboard warriors/asthma hypochondriacs complain about it where i live . I'm here for palm trees and sunshine so i don't care or notice.

Suplementary quetion. Where does, all the rubber go? I've always wondered.
Another one from the "You couldn't make it up" file..........

I've read in the news this morning that Sheffield City Council is currently running 83 vehicles that should be fined if they enter the city centre ULEZ.

Do they really expect us to believe that the council will fine itself?
Having worked for various Local Authorities over the last 30yrs, let me assure you , they absolutely will.
Read a few months ago about Birmingham council vehicles being clocked in their ULEZ.

This thread is full of ****, but this one takes the biscuit.
For the record, asthma kills people, and you don't need to witness a 5 year old having a life threatening attack to understand that.
But we can't allow trivial details to interrupt our cosy little lives can we?

Three times today our door bell has been rung by parcel delivery blokes. Two out of those three have been for neighbours. I shout "Sorry, can't take it, we've got COVID", to which the response has been "So you're not going to take it, then.........?"
The penny has dropped in government for more highway robbery, having recently released data showing that tyres, brakes and wear to the roads surface releases more particles than exhaust emissions, guess what, they have asked Arup to look at ways of implementing a tyre tax.

Most folks had already worked out that a heavier vehicle,IE an EV that everyone is being forced into, produced more particles than a lighter ICE vehicle,
they are exacerbating they problem by their own policy.

Motorists are the easiest cash cows ever, so if this is implemented as a tax on new tyres, me doth think road safety will be compromised, more folks will be running around on Kojak radials.

Actually there are new tires coming out that reduce particulates to the same or lower of ICE cars... across the board though there are fewer emissions and particulates than an ICE in a similar role...
Nothing is perfect. There is no such thing as a win-win.
Don't use ANY car and things will get better... unfortunately that is not very realistic...
What gives me the creeps is that our government copies all that seems a “success” in Europe , especially UK and Spain, here some number of the robberies:

Since the implementation of the infamous “speed cameras” (30mph on main avenues!)and the “intersection cameras”(red light), which are a total nightmare, our city government has robbed 27,350,000USD, that’s from 2018 to 2022 that’s6,837,500 per year, just by “enforcing the law”!

Since the implement of the street parking systems(that’s the charge they get to let you park on the street), from 2018 to 2022, our government has robbed 87,500,000 USD, that’s21,875,000 USD per year.

In the mean time, I have got 4 tires punctured for bumps, bad roads, etc and the regular time on a 5km trip is about 1-1.5hours each day, so go figure!

Add to that the environmental/pollution check that we are obligued to do twice a year (in my case for the two family cars) and the property tax we pay for each vehicle (10% for new cars and about 8%-4% for used cars), imagine how grumpy I get each year!

I thought Hackney were coining it from Yellow Box fines totalling over £1,000,000 a year from just 1 yellow box. Daniel your government make Hackney Council look like amateurs in my opinion.

Kojak radials - I like that. That description is not the worst road tyre I've seen though. Piggott's re-cuts take the biscuit. Piggott's was an ancient old school scrap yard in the city where I used to live. It had an unsavoury reputation. One of it's specialities was tyres with re-cut tread patterns. The problem was, the tyres were NOT re-treads, but re-cuts of existing worn out covers. This was not illegal then but was shunned by anyone who valued their life.
