Are there more guys out there who have the feeling that you are the party pooper whenever you answer to a post on the forum, in the sense that all conversation had suddenly dried up.

I get it that there are times when your comment does not need another comment or the following conversation.

I've gone through all my topics, which I've started or commented on and got to this result. Out of a total of 207 topics, I was the stopper or last comment posted 29 times. That translates into 14% of all times that I post something.

So guys, if you post anything, hope that I don't spoil it for you, because you have a 14% chance that nobody ever wants to carry on with your well meant posting.

It merely shows that, as the fount of all wisdom, your comment is all that needs to be said on the matter, there is no further point in adding anything

So, naturally, I have had this experience too

I've been on quite a few forums over the last 20-odd years. I lost count years ago of the number of times I've been the final poster on what was a livery debate. The first few times (IIRC) it was a little disconcerting but these days I rarely think about it.

Sometimes it's the little things that yank my chain. Google have just 'upgraded' gmail and now when I've finished with an email and deleted it a wee black box appears in the lower left hand corner stating "conversation moved to bin". Well, blow me down. I would never have guessed that. In days gone by I would have said "Google, you're as thick as a donkey" but in this PC world I can't say that as it is insulting to donkeys.

I'm looking for a new job. What a load of sh17e online application processes are.

The personal details section at the beginning of one application had a field for a mobile number. The field was a required - no mobile number and you couldn't continue the application. I don't have a mobile.
wacko.png

A second asked me to upload my CV before continuing. I did, no problem. The page then refreshes and asks for all the details that are included in the CV. Really? You won't let me apply without my CV and then you want me to spend 15 minutes filling required fields duplicating everything that's included on said CV?

I've been in my current job for nearly 15 years. Over the course of those 15 years all my previous employers have ceased to exist in the form in which I left them. You've probably guessed what my third example required...............

........... My entire educational and employment record from the day I took my first CSE exam, quote;- "This must be fully traceable".
yikes.gif
To quote John McEnroe;- "You cannot be serious!". To expect anyone's 44 year education/employment history to be fully traceable is totally unrealistic.

Lol @ Stu.
A long time ago I applied for a job, similar to that which I was doing at the time. I'd been pretty successful in that job , exceeded targets etc.
So when the company asked me to travel 160 miles to complete a test to see if I was compatible with job, needless to say that didn't happen, and I told them to do one.
Now I'm self employed and please myself, only needing to do my self assessment tax return, which is done online, simple!

You want to try applying for teaching jobs and the associated enhanced crb checks, youngest son has just searched the market and applied for his first car insurance, I think he found it frustrating, recently back from French hols and the usual M25 dartford queues, still got queues but now it takes 5 mins to pay by phone, if you remember, rather than 5 seconds to throw some change into a machine basket and isn't the tunnel and Bridge paid for yet, it's called progress.

If you don't like the hassle of paying the toll by phone just open an account online and pay automatically. They will send you an email receipt almost instantaneously.

Yes, the bridge and tunnels were paid for many years ago but the government lied when they said the tolls would be removed once this had happened.

Not unlike myself. I recently left a job I've had for 15 years and didn't have another in place. I have a private pension that kicked-in when I turned 60 a couple of months ago, but it's several hundred a month less than I need to live on comfortably. I could probably have coped financially for a few months before another paying job came along, but today I've been offered a nice (hopefully cushy.....) little number three days a week. So by this time next month I'm going to be employed again - but only part-time.

The infamous auction site.......... I had a set of winter wheels, among other things, listed on there. A local lad wasn't sure they were what he wanted, could he come and have a look? I messaged him my address but their system wouldn't allow me to include my 'phone number or e-mail address. These are essential as wor hoose isn't the easiest to fine. Then I had a bright idea....... Send the 'phone number as words (zero one nine one, etc). Bingo! It sent.

However, my account has now been suspended due to "fraudulent activity". Apparently sending your 'phone number to someone who wants to view the item(s) your offering is a violation of their terms. Trying to calmly explain that where we live isn't easy to find, and just about everyone who's never been here before needs guidance, got me precisely nowhere. ...As did telling them they're losing commission because I can't currently sell any of the items I have listed.

So, I can give-out my address but not my 'phone number. Good data protection skills there!

Where do those of you in the UK sell your unwanted stuff? Is it as successful as selling on the site I refer to here?

I am vrey grumpy…

I have meddled with tech since the 80's and while I can't program or do electronics I have a good general understanding of things technical as well as things practical.

Last night we wanted to catch up on a show we missed.

The APP on the satellite receiver no longer worked. Apparently their license had run out…

Using the web browser on the TV didn't work. They had recoded the page in a way the browser couldn't handle and/or the TV manufacturer didn't feel the need to support a 5 (!) year old TV.

So I noticed among the apps on the TV that you can "mirror" a display of my laptop wirelessly (I of course don't have a device with a composite, s-video or HDMI out).

I give it a try and after grasping the concept I actually got it to work!

Then I had to deal with some kid issues and the laptop had gone to sleep. No problem I thought, just do what I did before. Right?

Well… an hour and a half later the damn thing refused to connect again.

I tried absolutely everything, restarting, rebooting, plug pulling, internet on/off etc etc etc.

How can a binary device not work the same way twice?!

How much of ^^^ that do I understand??? Precisely zero.

My grump for today is my ex-employer. When I handed-in my notice it was agreed that as I had holiday unused I would finish my employment on the last working day of the month, and use-up the holiday on the last 8 days of my employment. Therefore I actually haven't been to work since the middle of the month. With me so far?

I checked my bank account yesterday (payday). My pay is about £500 short. So I checked for my payslip on the company's online portal. Sure enough, they haven't even paid me in full for the days I actually worked.
yikes.gif
While I was there, I also checked to see if my P45 is there (they are renowned for taking an age to sort anything like this). Lo-and-behold, it was......... And it's dated the last day I actually attended, not the last working day of the month.

OK, so I can prove that they owe me the holiday pay (even if my employment did finish on the day they said, I still had unused holiday entitlement) and, of course, they have a legal obligation to pay it. But I just know it's going to be like getting blood out of a stone.
mad.gif
Particularly as they will have to "re-employ" me so that all the tax/NI is sorted correctly. It's a good job I'm not struggling for that money like some people do.

To cap it all, when I spoke to the manager on the 'phone this morning he tried to make it my fault! It's not his fault that he didn't give the correct information to the payroll department, then??

Don't get me started on fixes.
We've had an amazing hot sunny summer in the UK.
However there was a Bank Holiday weekend, (sat , sun, mon, to those of you elsewhere) at the end of May and end of August. It p****d down for both .
How come when workers get a break from work it rains?
Why is it that those who don't go to work get all the best weather , when the rest of us pay our taxes and get p**'s wet through when we get a day off?

Ha... at least you are wise enough to make such holidays on "last Monday of August" or "first Monday in May"... here it is a fixed date and when that falls on a Sunday, when everything is already closed and you can't do squat everyone just hum-ha accepts it. What is the point of a Labor Day that you don't work on anyway and those that do (Vicars and the like) have to work anyway?!

regarding the HR pay thing: a good HR payroll system would never let that happen unless someone goes in and physically mucks with the system.

I am in serious grump mode today about insurance. I currently have home, motor and travel insurance with Aviva. Travel is due for renewal but I can't do it online - why not? Motor and home can be done this way.

Live chat is not working (as usual) so I can only do it by phone. Pressed loads of buttons only to be told that 'they are really busy today and it could be 20 minutes wait time' which I am paying for on my phone bill!

Needless to say my call is 'really important to them' so please wait while they play you some terrible music, interrupted by stupid advice to visit their website. If my call was that important then they would employ enough people to answer the bloody phone!

Current wedding reception etiquette..........

I don't get invited to many weddings and TBH I'm not bothered because I've never been a fan of them. But a few things have disturbed me about the last 4 I've been to.

The "top table" has had the usual suspects on - bride, groom, bridesmaids, best man, bride's & groom's parents. Then the nearest tables are the bride's & groom's friends & acquaintances, and the relations (siblings, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, etc) are shoved to the back. So you don't care about making it obvious that your families aren't important to you, then?

Other than the toast drinks, if you want alcohol you have to bring your own. OK, so you don't want to be offering a free bar, but a bar of some sort would be nice.

As well as the usual dancing, activities will include karaoke, or a quiz, or party games, or any combination of the three. Really???

Why can't people just socialise? I thought we are living in a social society.
