I always thought that motorised vehicles were not allowed on pavements. The scooter could be used on the road tax free but would need to be registered.

I came across a protestor a couple of weeks ago on my way through London, or shall i say a couple of thousand of them , now i support saving the planet do my recycling sort everything into little boxes some of which are slung into a refuse vehicle together often wonder if there are little men sitting in there resorting what i had already sorted.
Anywy there was this very nice gentleman with a banner that said , save our world for the future generation , and having nothing to do we started chatting asked him have you come far he said from Aylesbury , i asked did you walk he said no we came by car, so i said but your polluting the planet , then i said i presume you don't use electric and gas then as they pollute the planet, and i suppose you don't eat imported food as the air miles are polluting the planet you don't buy anything made in China, India or the USA as your increasing the pollution by wanting to buy what you want to buy a bit cheaper even though it,s adding pollution to the planet .
He looked at me and said you don't understand were tyring to save the planet for your children, i replied i don't have any children so as to not add more pollution to the planet , he just walked away shaking his head , while i stood there watching thousands of people adding pollution to the planet walk past.

He probably knows naff all about his cause as huge numbers of the XR protesters are actually just "for hire" and being paid for their time.

Step daughter again! Too lazy to learn to drive so uses long-suffering Mum as a taxi service to the railway station for morning commute. Today they arrive at the station and s.d. has left her mobile 'phone behind !!! Shock horror omg help!! Mum refuses to go back and get it as there is only 8 minutes before the train leaves, so no time and she would then inevitably have to drive s.d. to work - a one and a quarter hour round trip in rush hour traffic - with of course no thanks or offer of reimbursement for time and expense. We have been down that road many times.
So . . . s.d. has a proper hissy fit, the full works, tears, tantrums, shouting, accusations of not caring, foot-stamping and refuses to get out of the car. Everything in fact except "I'll scweam and scweam until I'm sick". The true awfulness of not having her 'phone was really hitting home. She hasn't looked up from it for ten years. Mum gets out of the car and walks around the car park until the hysterics have died down. S.d. then asks "what will I do on the train?" "Look out of the window at the lovely countryside or buy a magazine and read it, or just think".
We shall see this evening what effect her first non-gorming day has had. It must be odd to see the world for real rather than through a screen.

And another thing. . . I have just discovered by her unmade bed, another full glass of fresh fruit juice. Every night she pours out a glass-full and then only takes one sip. The hotel of mum and dad is clearly not supplying juice of good enough quality for the guest's taste. Must try harder.

I just read your posts out to my wife. Her face was a picture.
Her suggestion is that this child should realise she is now a woman and start acting accordingly and without the 'support' she is getting which just makes the situation worse. Get a bike or walk to the bloody station was her first comment.
As to the mobile, the air turned too blue to repeat here but there was an article in the Guardian (guilty as charged) which suggested that smartphones were a worst risk to the human race than climate change or something of the like.
How you run your affairs is your business of course but a short holiday for your SD here in Ronnie's hands might come as a bit of a shock to the poor lamb.

Just remembered that we live in a null zone for mobile phones (although some of the later models seem to get a signal of sorts)

They just about work in the loft.
I don't have one as I'm deaf so it doesn't worry me too much. I can imagine that some folk would find it a tad frustrating!!

Ah the mobile phone , i have a Doro sort of ideal for people like me ( fossil ) just make or receive the odd call, horror of horrors no apps on it , never used the soppy camera just for me to use in emergencies , but i have a bad habit stick it in my pocket off, as i,m going out driving and want to concentrate on those burkes out there driving around on the B phone who don't appear to see anything at all , then i pick up a bit of shopping and it,s still in my pocket off, drive back home and it,s still off as i,m driving , getting indoors put the off phone back in the drawer for a ride out next time, it,s pay as you go last time i put a tenner on it was last February quite cheap actually to run

Last August, he pulled up at traffic lights alongside a grinning woman in her car. She was chattering into her mobie. My chum leaned over, confiscated her 'phone and waited for the lights to change.
They duly obliged and off he went having endured lots of indignant abuse from hissing woman.
A minute later this battle resumed as a second set of lights stopped them again. Chum returned the 'phone along with a lecture about road safety and the law.
The abuse continued... Almost, but not quite, incredible.

My ideal place!
We frequently pick such places for holidays/breaks. In spite of affirming to Wor Lass's parents that we are very unlikely to have a signal where we are, they still insist on attempting to call every afternoon to enquire;- "How's the weather?" and/or "Are you having a lovely time? Where have you been?" In the days before mobiles, it wasn't unknown for mother-in-law to 'phone wherever we were staying, on a daily basis, to enquire about the weather.
My mother is nearly as bad, but at least she texts rather than calls. Then after a few days of us not replying, we get a sarcastic "Are you OK? I haven't had replies".
These days we only give vague details of where we are staying. If we are on a break, we want a break, otherwise there's no point in going away.

When I was young, I used to think I was shy and anti-social. Now I know it's just that I can't see the point of the wittering that most people seem to indulge in. They seem incapable of not filling in the silences. There are times when certain friends of ours just make me want to say "FOR GAWD'S SAKE - SHUT UP"
It's a kind of self affirmation. I'm here and I'm important enough for you to have to listen to me! I rather enjoy certain aspects of my deafness

News Bulletin - latest. She was re-united with her 'phone at lunchtime as SWMBO delivered it to her. Only a 14 mile detour this time, and all in the interests of family harmony (!). In the meantime s.d. had had a massive row with two of her work colleagues so I suppose reality broke through into her virtual world and she actually saw things. In the evening, my wife was rewarded by a further unbelievable display of selfish arrogance which triggered another family cold war. S.d. has now returned to her normal abode and will not be seen at Chez Pneus for a couple of weeks.
Praise Dawkins that I don't have to manage an all female environment where (in my lifetimes working experience) this type of thing is the norm. [exits left, ducking and running]
