I found this recently. It says Monogram 41. Would appreciate any help in identifying it. I also found a Chaparral which was easier to find on the net. The best I can find for this was one called a Thingie. Is that what this is? Any help is appreciated.

Mods, this is my first time posting in the forum. Please move or edit if I'm in the wrong forum. Thanks.
You're in the right area, Stan, altho it could have been put in Thingies also.

It is indeed a Thingie, Monogram's first, the Vampire, released in 1966. Looks fairly complete, except for missing rear wheel inserts, and the original guide has been replaced by a more modern item. Plus the usual wear and tear.

Monogram did a series of three Thingies, this one followed by the Snake, then the Assassin... all with the same basic running gear.

There may be some more photos on this site, or on the LASCM museum website.

Here's an ad for the Vampire, from Model Car Science, October 1966. Note that no manufacturer called their car a "Thingie" - they either didn't say what kind it was, or called it an Outlaw or a Dream Car.

Thank you so much for the help Don! Appreciate you posting the ad for the Vampire. That is so neat to see.
That's a great start to a Thingie collection it should clean up quite well!
Cheers,
John.

Thank you Stefano - nice family portrait!

I wasn't too fond of the Snake or Assassin, but ever since the Snake did well in a race for me, I've had a soft spot for that one...

Missing the rear Vampire sticker as well . I took a pic , as close to original size . You might want to print one .
Pic of the wheel inserts as well, and my 3 Amigos .

Same Don , I wasn't a fan of the Monogram cars to start with , they were smooth ....but as soon as I placed some urethane tyres on them , they really impressed me , especially the Snake !
Forgot to mention , the Snake was originally green in colour , but over time , it has turned gold . Some of my friends also experienced the colour change!

Stan ,
Just noticed the chassis pic . The gear side is not right ! In saying that , I'm not quite sure what is holding the spur gear and wheel . Possibly better to remove both spacers on the gear side and add a nut on the wheel side , as the bushes are sticking out far . There is already wear on the spur gear , so bring it closer to the pinion, tighten the spur gear to the nut , then tighten the wheel to the nut ..... then adjust the opposite side for even tracking .

The Snake is the only one of those cars I like enough to keep one. Still not big favorite, but I like it better than the others. There were some nice paint colors on this series of cars.

Given how good looking some Thingies were e.g. Testors Marauder, Garvic Coronado I've always thought Monogram didn't quite hit the mark with their body styles. Just a personal opinion.
