Slightly off piste but, on a similar theme, I was weeding a flowerbed 'smornin' and dug up a few dandelions. No shortage of 'em.

Pity to waste them, so I've converted the roots into coffee. Dead easy if you're bored. Wash roots, roast in an oven, grind to powder, return to the oven for a few mins, mix with boiling water, and drink.

"Bored? I'll give you bored!"

Young dandelions make good eating as a salad, the unopened buds being particularly tasty.

I've just drunk a cup of my latest dandelion root coffee. An excellent alternative to Nescafe, and other brands, and most refreshing.

Coffee can also be made from acorns.
