Best of luck to Brian Saunders, who - like Geoff Mitchell, Charlie Gooding and Mark Harrison before him - will be participating in a round of the South African national championship this weekend.

Kind regards,

Russell

I don't have the complete results yet, but Brian - teamed with two local racers, Colin Lotz and Dudley Tileard - won the Port Elizabeth 6-hour endurance race by about 40-laps.

In the Plafit classes, Brian got three 2nd place finishes, except the 1/24th class, in which his motor blew. All the Plafit races were won by Gustav Heyman.

In Production 24, Gustav again took the wins, with Brian 2nd.

Apparently the humdinger of the weekend was the GT-12 race. With Gustav languishing on a 4.687 lap, Brian thought that he TQ'd with a 4.468 - until Colin Lotz turned a lap of 4.422 in the final minute of qualifying. Brian took the win in the first race, with Colin half a lap adrift. In the second race, Brian was 3-laps up on Colin going into the last 2-minute segment, when Colin clawed back with a brilliant drive, taking three and half laps off Brian. Colin was 1st, Brian 2nd and Gustav 3rd.

By the sound of things, Brian enjoyed his first SA National and the locals learnt a few new tricks from him.

With kind regards,

Russell
