Goodwood "themed" night

Now you've got your regular night set in the calendar how about setting a date for a classic night.

4th November would be good for me and I mentioned it to Steve & Geoff last night at Liphook.

4-6 classes - depending on numbers - based on grids from any of the Goodwood Revivals. Saloons, Front engined GP, 60's GT, 50's Sports etc. That sort of thing anyway. Keep it fairly open, ruleswise, so as to let homebuilts and modified stuff to run. As long as they look OK.

Whaddya think?

I think it's a great idea. Dave says November 4th is no go, but we can certainly do a Goodwood night on the 11th.
The first of our Goodwood themed nights will be held at 7:30pm on 11th November. The classes will be as follows:

Fifties Sports/GT
Saloon cars up to 1966
Front engined GT cars 1960-1966
Front engined GP cars
Rear engined Sports/GT up to 1966

Hard bodies only.
Wheels, tyres, chassis, guides, and motors are free choice, but remember this is a "Spirit" of Goodwood night. We're only here to have fun.

Thank you Jim. Your entry is confirmed.

QUOTE (Mr.M @ 29 Oct 2008, 10:43) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Do the Revell Galaxies go round the tighter bends, Peter?

Is the SCX Chappie of the correct age? Don't recall seeing one at Goodwood.
We also used to run a prewar class. Mostly Pink Kar Bugattis with SCX motors. I know Geoff was keen for that to be on the programme when racing started up again.
Revell Galaxies do go round quite nicely. I will probably give mine a whirl.
The SCX Chappie is the same vintage as a Ferrari P4, so I would expect Goodwood to allow one to run if it was entered. As far as I am concerned, that means yes, it does fit within the "spirit" of Goodwood.
Prewar classes will definitely be included in future meetings. In the meantime, the Bugatti fits the Front Engined GP category.

That's a lot of not sures, I'm thinkings, off the top of my heads, possibles, coulds, if it's, and maybes, Phil. But is it a firm entry?

Peter
That's Phil and Scott to add to Jim, Dave, and Peter, bringing the numbers up to five, with Geoff, Steve, and Clarkey as possibles.
QUOTE (AAWSCC @ 30 Oct 2008, 13:56) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>We noticed when racing on Tuesday night that the lap counter don't register coloured guides.
If you are planning to run any "Goodwood" themed cars that have coloured guides you will need to change them.
Cheers
Dave

The main culprits are Scalextric GT40's (they are the right model for a Goodwood theme, incidentally) but don't panic. I have a good stock of black replacement guides @ 60p each or £2.00 for a pack of four.

BUT WHAT ABOUT PIN GUIDES, DAVE?

About half a dozen 1966 vintage Ford GT40 mark 2's race regularly at the Goodwood revival, plus the occasional 1964 vintage Ford GT.
The recent Scalextric models of the 1966 cars, including the Graham Hill version, are all of GT40 mark 2's, and perfectly eligible.
I hope you mean Porsche 906 Clarkey. 908's don't qualify for pre 1967.
I will be bringing lots of Fifties sports/GT, so you can borrow one if you like.
Following the success of our first Goodwood themed night, the second one will be held at 7:30pm on Tuesday 9th December (Man Utd are playing on Wednesday 10th Jim, so you should be O.K.).
Entry fee for this wonderful night of fun is a mere £3.00!
The classes will be as follows:

Road going Sports/GT, 1960-1966
Saloon cars up to 2 litres, pre 1967
Rear engined GP cars, pre 1968
Saloon cars over 2 litres, pre 1968
Rear engined Sports/Prototypes, open or closed top, 1960-1967

Hard bodies only.
Wheels, tyres, chassis, guides, and motors are free choice, but remember this is a "Spirit" of Goodwood night. We're only here to have fun.

It's only ten days until the next Goodwood night, so get your entries in, lads and lasses.
Confirmed so far are Dave, Alan, and Peter. So come on Jim, Steve, Geoff, Scott, and anyone else who wants to join in; let us know if you can make it.
You will be more than welcome, driver#8. It will also be nice to "chew the fat" with a fellow NASCAR enthusiast.
Geoff has confirmed his entry today.
Don't worry Jim, he's still going to Liphook on December 11th.
Following the continuing success of our Goodwood themed nights, the third one will be held at 7:30pm on Tuesday 13th January 2009.
Entry fee for this wonderful night of fun is a mere £3.00! There are now six classes, so every driver will take part in 24 races.

Well Scott, you missed a great night. We had so much fun that we ran another three classes (12 races each) at the end. Who knows how much longer we would have stayed if Dave's wife hadn't (quite rightly) kicked us out!

As requested, here are some pics:

At the end of the evening I made a fool of myself by saying that the Jag XK120 never took part in the TT. Of course, it won the 1950 and 1951 TT's at Dundrod!
In mitigation, I have done some research and can now say "The XK120 never raced in a TT at Goodwood". We will still allow them, though.

As five classes seems a bit mean, especially for those who have to travel a long way to attend, we have decided to add a sixth class for the January meeting. Provisionally this will be for pre war GP cars, unless anybody has a strong objection.
What with missing events through your birthday, then your wife going to a show, and now visiting your mother, you're beginning to sound like Nick49, Clarkey! Some families just don't appreciate the importance of slot racing.

Seriously though, if anyone else can't make the 13th, please let us know. We can always move the event to another week.
