Everything of the very best on your 50th birthday, Jeff!
Jeff is of course none other than Rail Racer and the person responsible for putting rail racing back on track (pun intended) and author of the soon to be released book on the history of rail racing, "Built With Passion".
Jeff rewrote the history books when on the 20th of August 2000, he reintroduced rail racing in England, and possibly the world. Jeff organised a series of 1/32nd scale rail races on a track set up in the Chequered Flag room of the Brooklands motor racing circuit's museum, to commemorate the first ever rail race held at Southport in 1954. Jeff also constructed the track for the event.
I was pleased that Jeff had asked me to restore an original Walkden Fisher-built chassis for this race. It was quite sobering thinking about the fact that when Mr Fisher originally built the car, the Mercedes W196 was the latest Grand Prix car at the time. I was impressed by the craftsmanship of the original chassis, especially considering the materials and tools available in the 50s.
Have a good one, Jeff!
With kind regards
Russell
