I've seen a left handed version long time ago, can't remember if it was metric or imperial though.

Normally they are fairly invisible… but tonnes of them around the place :)

Back in the 60s we had the very devil of a job getting them past the US Safety Regulations. They had to fit huge rubber, bumpers front and rear, eventually.

Suitably miniaturised there are about five billion or more in every state of the art smart phone ;)

This is the first one on the planet - it dates back to 1947 - Acknowledgments: Shockley and Haynes (Bell AT&T Labs).

Before they used the N type germanium they tried the F type germanium like this

The gold foil doesn't scare me much. But that spring looks very expensive!

Is that one powered by a single bolt of lightning? Just asking... ⚡
