Heart Of England Grand Prix Championship, Rounds 5&6 - Dudley Slot Car Club - 24/6/2012.

Official Entries thread.

After some trouble free and very pleasant negotiations with our friends at Dudley Slot Car Club I am proud to announce that Rounds 5&6 of the Heart Of England Classic Formula 1 Championship 2012 will take place at their spectacular purpose built racing facility in Dudley on Sunday 24th June 2012.

Address:
Parkway Road
Dudley
West Midlands
DY1 2QA

Its a routed 130 foot wooden slot circuit with a recessed braid rail, which is fast challenging and superb to drive on.

Open Meetings are at 13.8volts

Powered by 4 Rapid 40amp Supplies (one per lane)

Close up of the slot/rail dimensions

Recent testing proved that Johnson Formula cars ran much better with a 1.5mm - 2.0mm clearance gap between the front tyres and the surface of the track with this type of recessed braid set up. The slot depth was measured to be approximately 11mm deep.

PLEASE NOTE!!!:

1, A deeper guide is neccessary in order to actuate the Dudley Circuit lap timing system.

2, Some additional weight near the guide flag is highly recommended to regular and potential competitors.

Further advice on suitable slot guide types will be published on this thread in the next few days.

To ensure that your cars are properly set up a free practice/test session has been arranged for the Saturday 23rd June 2012. You are strongly advised to attend to ensure reliable running of your cars.

Many thanks to Graham and all the guys at Dudley Slot Car Club for your help in supporting this new championship.

Strictly restricted to 25 entrants only.

Please PM me ASAP to confirm your entry into Rounds 5&6.

A "Guide" to Guides for Dudley:

As promised here is a quick update on the suitable guide flag types which are suitable for use at the Dudley track.

You will need a deeper guide to actuate the lap counter/timing system at Dudley so make sure you are prepared well in advance for the event by reading this post in full.

The rail at Dudley is of a recessed braid type. The slot is approximately 11mm deep.

See close up pictures below.

Suitable guides include:

1, Slot It Wooden Track Guide (Available from Pendle Slot + ebay etc)

2, Modified Scalextric Standard Guide:

I've made my own guide which is a modified Scalextric guide flag to the following dimensions.

Length:

Depth:

Width:

All I did was simply Araldite some thin plasticard on either side of the blade of the standard scalextric guide. I then filled the gap using a wooden coffee stirrer, gluing it in place with araldite.

After the Araldite had hardened I machined the flag to size using a Dremel and sandpaper.

This picture shows best:

I've tested it at Dudley and it works perfectly.

I'm happy to make one for competitors at a cost of £3.50 (to cover time and expenses).

PM if you would like me to make you one.

Happy to discuss.

Ian,
You must have way too much spare time on your hands if you can find time to make your own guide!
I would love to be racing next week, but I cant comit as yet. Ive committed to the Wales & west this weekend, Im not sure if I can get a pass-out for two weeks on the trot..... If I cant race, I hope to drop in and watch a bit.

Hi

I have been to Dudley and it is a very good track and has been built to BSCRA specs so yes you can use a truespeed and any other controler you like.
