Well Santa kindly left my six year old son the Cars 2 set for Christmas, Dad had nothing to do with it honest...
We've added the C3180 Gallardo recently and despite losing a wing mirror during it's last outing it has become a favourite and races with McQueen & Francesco Bernolli. While I've taken a dislike to the Start track I can see it's merits for the young racers, ease of assembly etc. but I can see it being discarded before too long as it really is too much hard work trying to design a circuit that includes it. Next up, a new challenger for the Gallardo and some crossovers and definately more barriers!!.

A friend kindly bought me the Goldfinger DB5 for my 50th and I've since added the Casino Royale version, neither will be raced as the collector in me hates taking anything out of the boxes....I can feel a TV and Film collection building here.
Not had this much fun in ages, even my three year old is hooked while the six year old has the Lambo flying around.....

Love the site, loads of great information

Hi Stuart! Nice to hear from someone in Ireland who is into slot cars (not that many of us here!).

There is a small group who race them every 2nd Thursday night in the Dublin area and in Meath (Ratoath, Raheny and Dundrum mainly, and sometimes in Cabinteely). There are at most 10 of us who meet up and generally we have a bit of fun and don't take it too seriously. New people are always very welcome! (It helps to have the numbers to race and still have enough to marshal the corners too!).

Here is a link to our "club" page on this site: Dublin Slot Racing Group

I add a race report (usually a month behind...) with some pictures of the tracks and cars we use.

Please feel free to contact me through this site and I can send you back my email address and attach some photos of the set ups we have between us.

Hi Ronan
Thanks for the welcome and apologies for the late reply.....
Read several of your race reports, good stuff and your circuits and cars are way ahead of anything my lad and I have on the floor...
Will send you PM with email.

Talk soon

Good to hear back from you!

Most stock scalextric cars and the like run pretty well on the tracks we have (no magnetic effect, but the paint has a chalkboard finish so standard tyres grip quite well) plus on a race night you can in one of four races pick the type of car used, hence you can pick something you have already and not be at a disadvantage.

For the other races if you don't have a suitable car it's no problem as there are plenty of cars to go around between all our collections!

When I started racing in 2009 I only had a few suitable cars, but after a few race nights I had a good idea as to what cars to get down the road and now have quite a few good race winning cars! (Often in fact some of the other guys like to borrow one of my spares and usually do very well as a result!).

Hope to meet up with you soon, the more slot car racers we find in Ireland the better! (There aren't many of us!).
