Folk's,
I am new-ish here though I have been active over on SCXWW for a few years. I am pretty experienced on Tuning and general car work but I have hit a brick wall here. I have just bought my first slot-it, the Mazda 787B which is a little iconic and interesting to me. I am not a big Le Mans type follower but I liked this car and find it interesting.

I am dipping my toe into the Slot-it world due to the upgrade parts range available so I have spent days looking at their site and suppliers sites...... I am entirely befuddled as to the range and diversity of bit's available. OK.... it's going on the track, so the unbreakable parts are a must and thats clear enough on parts lists. BUT.... , I like lights, and I may need suspension as my track is a bit bumpy and I find anglewinder fastest. I am also dipping in here to play around with mods. So, I cannot decipher the codes, the sites, the suppliers listings for which kit MAY just fit in the car I have bought..... are there any GURU's here can help me with upgrade path/ parts definition..... even just some plain advice on this car????

I have done a bit of research here and elsewhere, the back-up wing is going on LAP1, but I hear it's a pretty good slot-it. What parts should I look at and which ones... codes?? ... actually fit. I have to say this is a bit like when I came back to slot's a few years ago, I feel a complete Newbie so any help would be gratefully recieved. Best to All.

Thanks - Bob, HighlanderSCXWW.

Can - Worms - BOOM - If you're confused now you be even more so when you get a multitude of answers, all different!

Best advice I can offer - go to the Slot.it website. The Models section has a parts list for all current cars, then go to the Tune Up section and find compatible replacement parts.

Next if you're on a typical plastic home track forget anglewinder, stick with the standard motor and play with Sidewinder/Inline and various offsets until you find something you like. Suspension only works on Sidewinder and AW but a new kit for Inline is due soon.

Can spend up to £100 on parts for one of these , you say your experienced ... So the standard car with tyres glued and trued will not be terrible

Highbarn, Flange,

Thanks for the replies... interesting. I can see from H's reply this is an "issue" area, that was my initial impression, which is why I posted. I can see I will need to do some book'lernin on the slot-it site. I had not seen the tune-up tab Highbarn so I will dig into there. Flange, I thought I explained that the reason I was getting this was to play around with the set-up from the custom slot-it supplies. All my tracked cars are trued-up and tuned, some glued tyres where needed.... I am running a car in the SCX Rally Proxy at the mo with other cars in-prep for next one.... if it happens? Most of the proxies have been complimentary about what I got out of the Escort Mk2 though it's clear I administered too many tranquilisers, the next set are slightly more lively! The advantage with an online community like this one is that sometimes you can by-pass all the trial & error with the consequent sometimes expensive mistakes, it helps to learn from those who have already been through it!

I don't plan to go out and spend hundreds in one-go, the attraction is to do a phased bit-by-bit tweaking development as funds/time allows.... it's just a toe in the water as far as slot-it goes. Thanks though for your comments and assistance.

Ok then here goes. What you want for speed is , no magnet , buy a 1.0mm offset anglewinder motor mount (if racing on wood) , if plastic a standard 0 offset anglewinder motor mount . Buy yourself a boxer-2 open can motor . Depending on what track your going to run it on pick according gearing either 11 or 12 tooth pinion . Then use gearing between 26 and 30 probably to get the best on the average track . Obviously you have to buy the anglewinder gear but any 11 or 12 tooth pinion will fit the anglewinder set up . Get some of the new slot it air hubs If you can and get some f15 tyres to put on them , then get some low profile zero grip tyres . For the front . Get a lightweight interior and glue true the tyres . That's it rele

The anglewinder gives you the best gear ratios and with the magnetic downforce of the track it covers move of the slot with anglewinder .
