Many of you who have been in contact with me regarding the club will have known that we were threatened with legal action regarding the club's use of a room at the hotel. That came to nothing and all the club track has now been sold.
What you may not know is that the owner of the hotel owed my wife a substantial sum in outstanding holiday pay, and owed me much more for work there (bar, reception, website maintenance etc.). When I presented my invoices last September he refused to pay a penny.
In the event we both took out separate actions through the County Court, and have both been to court to attempt to resolve the issues. The final hearings were to be on August 8th. Wonder of wonders, he contacted me last week to ask whether we could settle "amicably". I emailed him that if he paid me all I was owed plus my court costs (which were over £300) we could reach an amicable settlement. My wife then emailed him and suggested he might like to settle "amicably" as well.
The end result was that he paid us both in full yesterday, including court costs, and the money is now lodged in the Cyprus Fund. Slightly hungover this morning. Oh well ...
