Depends which type of Hot Wheels set it is - generally the HW Electric Racing line is a rebranding of the Tyco HO range, but I have seen a few HW branded sets that are in different sizes and appear to be 1:43 - such as the 4 lane Formula One set and the Harley bike figure-of-eight. I suspect these are also rebranding of something else.
If it is an ex-Tyco set in HO scale then I used to run Tyco, Tomy AFX and Micro Scalextric on this track with no problem at all.
Artin does 1/43 scale as well. The question is I think what the power is on the HW track - e.g. if the set runs on 6 volts it might be just too little for other manufacturers cars (like Carrera where you will need 12 - 14 Volts). Although some artin sets seem to be 6 volt and some 12...
