I remember this as a topic on SCI.

Not a bad idea, especially if it's an accurate livery.

I just thought to myself : what could be done ?

Several models could be choosen : the MG Lola, the TVR T400R, the GT3R, the GT40 ...

How could it work : you could vote for a model or a livery BUT your vote would mean you actually order the car ! (that way you avoid people who don't intend to buy the car to have any influence on the poll and you know the needed production number of cars ).

Would Scalextric play the game ? My bet is yes. It would be good for their popularity, it would do no good for their public relation to refuse their core customers a small favour and it would mean sales ...

We should give it a try.

What do you think ?

Scalextric have produced smaller batches than that before.
How many for the NSCC visit, 48? plus some for dealers - I think will total under 500. Scalextric and Carrera seem to be perhaps more obliging than any other manufacturer in this regard and are certainly worth approaching for an indicative price. In fact these two may be the only manufacturers to entertain the idea of specially commissioned orders.

..give me the number of cars, the model you would like - no Prsche or Bentley due to licence-agreemenst - and we'll see what's possible. And don't worry about a design - I know someone who is an excellent designer and has access to teh necessary data....

My experience of Hornby making LE for customers is min order = 1000.

Tecnitoys is even more.

No harm in asking mind.

I know it's not a racing vivery, but the nicest LE i have from Hornby are the Crystal Classics. Clear plastic moulds (Lambo and Jag XJ220).

Hornby makes smaller runs than you think. Witness the special TVRs made for the 24H of Brussels (200 I think ?).

It's all down to livery I guess. If it's too intricate they'll say "NO" or then you must have enough orders.

Fly definitely makes special orders as well. I don't even take into account MiniAuto's special editions.

There is 'vette that was specially done for the workers of a company... Cric-crac have their own special editions ...

We do have lives off the forum you know ...

Ok Ladies and Gents, I'll let you into a secret:

Swiss and I are in advanced stages of a deal with a manufacturer for a totally new car. Something really cool. SlotForum Exclusive! The manufacturer is busy negotiating rights right now to produce this racer.

We'll do a small limited edition run available only to members. Price will be reasonable, but worth it.

Watch this space.

Please give me some feedback:
  • What is your idea of Limited Edition?
  • What would be a fair price to pay for a SlotForum Exclusive edition?
Reply here or PM if you think it too sensitive to mention in public.

QUOTE What is your idea of Limited Edition?
What would be a fair price to pay for a SlotForum Exclusive edition? Not being noted for my sensitivity, I'll take a nibble if not a full blooded bite!

LIMITED EDITION
'Limited', to me, specifically means relatively small numbers and that is very subjective. MY number would DEFINITELY be less than 1,000 and highly preferably no more than 500. My ideal number would be a figure around the max population of Slot Forum membership, allowing for some 'not interesteds for whatever reason' say 250 MAXIMUM.
Just a 100 would be absolutely wonderful, but this would very likely adversely affect the price and there must be a balance here.

If the venture proved popular, over-subscribed, we could always repeat it, but definitely not with exactly the same car - that is essential in my opinion. No way that more should ever be made of the original LIMITED edition.

FAIR PRICE
A hard one, as my willingness to take my hands out of pockets with lucre clutched therein would absolutely depend on my level of desire for the particular car.
Could we agree that it cannot possibly be less than £25, the nominal price of a 'normal' car?
At the other end of my particular scale, I think no car could possibly drag me over the £50 barrier.
So somewhere in between for me.
But not ramming this down anyone' throat - it is merely a personal opinion.

As for the choice of car and decoration - I am not sure if we are being asked that, but having seen both Nuro's and Swiss's taste in cars, I would be pretty confident in leaving the choice to them. These guys have class.

I would like to echo Tropi's sentiments on both numbers and cost. Spot on for me too.

Tee-hee! Wankel, your safe, you will be able to sleep at night!
