Fergy I just stick silis with slicone to the rim or mould them direct which is the best way as the silicon I use is quite soft.I tend to use silicon for a lot of my old stuff as it doesnt go hard like rubber

Halfords black screen sealer is ok and unibond from b&q

I glue sponge across the full width ,and mould silicon directly onto the rim but only glue rubber at the edges ,yes you do get a balloon effect in the centre but by the time your tyres get like that there knackered and ready for a change
