Hi guys,

It is a bummer to hear about SCX but I need to know something about the SCX Hummer(off road model with guide arm that pivots) The sales assistant told me that it has been made to be ultra slow.("it crawls" were his words) .
I mean I don't expect it to be an F1..but is it that slow?.It really is a great looking slot car.I am itching..

Is the sales assistant talking through his head?

Yes, it is very slow. Don't expect to be able to race it against anything else. It's slow primarily because of its gearing and motor, not because of its weight.

If you want to buy Raid type cars but still require a reasonable turn of speed, buy Ninco. They're superb fun, but unfortunately now only available at highish prices on eBay.

The SCX model is, in my view, a nicer looking model, but as an all round compromise, the Ninco Hummer is a better buy.

SCX raid's are slower than Ninco raid's but not crawl slow, more like 'Ninco NC-1' or SCX RX-41 slow.

But, they have 6 gears, so most of them have a lot of gear friction when new, so out of the box some might feel crawl slow. But run-in the gears with tooth paste or car polish, and they will loosen up and become fun

If you are racing SCX Raid vs SCX raid it is fine they are fun to race against each other but they are slower than a Ninco Raid - turn the voltage up a bit and they go a bit quicker - I run my Ninco Raids at 12v if I run the SCX at that they are slow if you crank it up to 14v while they don't seem as quick as the Ninco they are plenty fast enough to be a challenge to keep on the track. Add a few bumps and obstacles and you don't want high speed anyway

If you want to race these on race tracks (which I have been doing tonight at the club) get a Ninco. But if you want to recreate what these monsters do in the real world you are better off wth an SCX. Compared to an SCX Raid vehicle a Ninco will struggle to climb it's own shadow!

Very good point,they are actually designed to handle rough terrain so I will have to get two of them for competiveness.This slot car craze of mine will bankrupt me
SCX Hummer is a real good looking slot car.The photo has got me going again!

The thing I forgot to ask though is the height.My layout has a bridge which is set to its highest to allow the Range Rover through.

If it is not too much trouble can you maybe give me the SCX Hummers height at its maximum.

I would like to know how the powerslot hummers compare to SCX & Ninco if anyone can tell me.

I have a H1 Hummer by Powerslot!
Its total height is 56mm. But I cant compare it with others!
Its four wheel drive with dubble rubber line from back to the front.

I have a ninco SCX and powerslot hummer - The powerslot is more comparable to the Ninco than the SCX speed wise.

We have a laugh when it does a wheel stand from take off. The drop arm is long like the SCX.
I have destroyed two gears on it - they tend to slip a little and the pinion chews them up. Shocks are not as good as Ninco.
