I don't know how close a match you want, but full-face helmets were used on many Scalextric cars from the early 1970s.
Heads are available from Scalextric Restorations in the UK and probably other shops/suppliers. See:
http://www.scalextric-car.co.uk/Parts/Driv..._head_small.htm
They're described as "small" but that seems to be in comparison with 1990s Scalex heads. From measuring a couple on my own cars, they're 7.5mm wide -- about the same as on an old Monogram Lola T70 and larger than those in some other brands. They're not the tiny heads used on some early Scalexes or on many old Airfixes.
The site gives a long list of the cars these were fitted to, which may help you put them in perspective.
If the above address doesn't work, start at www.scalextric-car.co.uk, search for "helmet" and then choose it from the list or menu on the right.
An alternative is to cut one from an unwanted Scalex body.
