Just to put a bit of back ground to this class, ASR do not have the membership that we hoped for. We are running out of ideas of how to attract newcomers to slot racing and we have a catchment area of close of 300,000 people. It seems that 299,997 are not really interested in racing toy cars! Anyway, we thought that if we provide a ready made made class with 4 good-looking cars prepped and provided by the club, them maybe, just maybe, we may get a few people interested.

So on to the race...............! We decided that we would allocate a car to a lane and that car would stay in that lane for the evenings' racing and the drivers would rotate as normal, that way, there would be no car or lane advantage and racers would gain experience with the subtle handling and performance differences.

The first race saw Mike with the Ferrari in red taking a fairly convincing win from a hard charging Sandra running the Aston Martin in Green while Rick took the long way round with the Mercedes in Blue.

Next race saw Mike with the Corvette in his bogey yellow lane making heavy weather of it while Rick and the Aston Martin took off like a scalded cat in green to record a flag-to-flag win with Sandra and the Ferrari in hot pursuit in red taking another second spot.

Third race of the evening again saw Rick and the Ferrari get another flag-to-flag win and a new class lap record, with Mike and the Mercedes in blue having an early tussle with Sandra and the Corvette in yellow with Mike gaining the upper hand to snatch second.

Last race of the evening saw Mike with the Aston Martin in green taking a flag-to-flag win with the fastest race time of the evening while Sandra and the Mercedes overcame a false start and 3 second penalty to fight back and overhaul Rick and the Corvette in yellow to take second place.

We all sat back to catch our breath and reflect and it's unanimous YES to including these cars in our future race calendar. A big "thank you" to Rick for providing and prepping these cars, they should provide a lot of reliable and fun racing through 2018 and they look really good on the track!

I feel your pain for membership ASR. In some areas even with large populations it is very difficult to get new members attention.

In the past our group has attended every hobby show 8n our area with a portable plastic trac and cars and controllers, a short video on our lap top and habdouts about the club and contacts. Even a set up in a shopping center help get the word out. What we found was a lot of closet slot car racers who thought they were alone in the world and a lot that were interested . Our club increased by half a dozen regulars and that is in a city of 45000, and catchment area of less than 100000.
Although the hobby shows were good, the amount of traffic at the mall was substantially better and resulted in more members.
And as a plus we met many people who had old stuff they were thinking of garbaging but either sold it to some of our members or updated and became active again.
I of course wish you luck and hope you can find a place to put on a display which draws new and old slot racers baxk to their forgotten childhood dreams.
