i originally posted this in the rally section but so far have had no suggestions from the sideways brigade! the lateral thinking on here sometime astounds me , so any idea's?

"having ended up with a surplus of scaley metro's , i thought i would have a go at actually making one look like a 6r4 , rather than the laughable effort they made of it. a good session with some plasticard and milliput should shape up quite nicely i think. then i got to wondering what other old , basic and most importantly cheap scalextric offerings could be turned into decent copies of the originals. so far i came up with a mk3 escort into a rs1700t. quattro into s1 and pretty much a simple repaint on a 260z to africa rally spec. any suggestions for other suitable candidates? other than the zed , i am thinking re-model rather than just re-paint."

I saw your post in the rally section. At the time I had thought of one, but I was in a hurry to do something else and now I've forgotten what it was.

RS1700T is a good idea, as is the 260Z.

How about a Sapphire Cosworth? .......Or one of the other Group A-era cars that haven't been covered as slot rally cars?

Plenty of saloon cars have been used on rallies as well as races....... Rover SD1 is an example.

I've got a list somewhere of 1970-on rally cars that don't appear to have ever been done. Turning late WRC cars (Fabia, Fiesta) into current S2000s looks fairly straight-forward.....

Inspired by my keen interest in European tarmac rallying, I've been wondering about doing a Nissan 350Z. Again, it should be a straight-forward re-livery job. But for me it would have to be a high-detail car and I haven't found one yet - Scalextric only seem to do crash-proof blacked-out-windows ones. Porsche 996 and 997 and Lotus Exige GT are common in European tarmac events as well.

Have a hunt through YouTube and DailyMotion for rally videos. There will be plenty of inspiration there - it's where I got most of mine from.

How about a Skoda, rear engine, rear wheel drive - like most slots cars

This is what I did with Scalextric models, the lights on the Datsun were made from the ends of biro pens.
Both had scratch built chassis with the 6R4 having 4WD and drop guide.

What about a Lotus Cortina MK2 - doesn't seem as popular as the MK1.

Please do the skoda!!!! (and put me down for one!)

What would be good would be to do the skoda shell to fit the fly porsche 911chassis so the engine is in the right place too!

The skodas were so competitive in rallying I can believe none of the main slot car manufactuers has produced one yet.
Even if Team slot made one I'd buy it, and thats saying something!

oh yessss...a 130R. that would be a hoot. i spent many a happy hour looning about in various 130 estelles back in the day. rear engined lift off oversteer....what a joy....
. that is definately one that needs to be done! the list of rally cars that i would like to own/build is pretty extensive but at the moment i am just thinking of bargain basement conversions based on chirpy cheap cheap old school scalextric donors.
