Hi all I've just took dilevery of a classis scalextric lemans 24hr set a bargin on ebay
And I've got some more track from a guy from work
I've set it up and the cars are very stop and start????
The rails look grey rather than silver is it a case of giving it a good clean till its all silver again
What's best to use some rough sandpaper then smooth or can I use my dremmel
Its all classic track so no mixing of track
All the cars work normal on my start track so I know its not the cars
Any help is greatfully appreciated thanks in advance guys

What power supply are you using? Im pretty sure the old classic track needed a DC power supply. The new track uses an AC power supply and then this is converted to DC on the power track section. Check your wall wart power supply and see if it is AC or DC output.

Its the original powersupply that was in the box with the black one that you conect the controllers to
So that bits correct theres power there as i lift the wheels up but if i move the car forward still raised slightly the power fades and increases if that makes sense

Is this happening on the power track section itself? Or as you go from track section to track section? The rails are nickel coated steel. The coating is VERY thin. Once its gone there is not a lot you can do. Savage cleaning like you have suggested will only be a very short term solution and will cause the mild steel to rust at an accelerated rate. Lots of people buy copper tape and place this on top of the rails.

Its all over the track peices
Ive just spotted a thread about cleaning ill try a bit of lighter fluid to see weather that brings back a shine
However ive manged to get a few laps strung together now still stuttering but its imProving so ill give the spray a go tomOrrow

Hi gerbil i did have an old revell track with the same problem the best thing i found for it was using a bit of lighter flid then use Duraglit comes in a small tin it is a wadding material and i found in the short term it worked quite well, although eventually i had to get a new track as wear and tear took over, you can buy this product from most Hardware outlets, one tip rub it of as you go and do one section at a time, Keith.

I had just read about a 'miracle product' for Scalextric slot car track. It is called INOX MX3. However this stuff works.

We have a club layout located in a severe environmental location - an industrial site in a rented storage area. There is a lot of dust and living in Central Florida, we have a lot of humidity and heat - like I said, a severe environmental location.

The track is Scalextric Sport track and we were having spotty electical problems and many of us felt there were some areas that had reduced power. Yes, I do understand that everyone has to race on each lane, but it was not fun being on a lane that had reduced power and getting lapped multiple times during a stint.

One of the members read about INOX MX3 and decided to buy some and give it a try. Well we just had a race this week and the stuff really works. We applied a drop to each of the braids on the car and ran laps prior to the race. After ten to fifteen laps we were hearing the signal from our timing system (TrackMate) that indicated we were turning the fastest laps. This continued on and we were soon turning laps close to the track record back when we first installed the track.

During the race no one had any 'issues' with power drop off on any lane nor parts of a lane.

The price is about $15.00 for enough INOX MX3 to last almost a lifetime. I highly endorse it after seeing firsthand what it will do for you.

If your track has any rust then junk it, it is not recoverable and a waste of time and effort to try. Plenty more on eBay and cheap as chips.

If it is just dull with age and dirt then use a Plebys cleaning kit LINKY. It will restore the track to "as new" condition.

Under no circumstances use sandpaper, it will destroy the surface.

Inox is not really any good for cleaning purposes but will keep the track in good condition once you have cleaned the muck off it.
