It should be, but I thought I'd better ask - I'm not talking of a big blob drowning the electronic components, just four dots at the board corners or a thin bead

Silicon - hard brittle substance, the majority component of glass and sand.
Silicone rubber - soft, stick-to-almost-anything, (usually) waterproof adhesive, like bath caulking.

I would think the silicone rubber adhesive would be perfect for the job and provide a good deal of vibration cushioning too, as a bonus.
An alternative would be the clear goo that is used to stick CD cases to magazines, probably a variation on silicone rubber anyway!
