Hi,

I only have the Scalextric ones but would suggest the Carrera one is probably better looking.

My reasons are

1. total disappointment with the second release of the Scalextric one, they were so lazy they didn't even tidy the mold to remove the ejector seat and bullet shield at the back that were moving parts on the 1st release. This is simply unacceptable with a car costing this much and supposedly limited edition, 500 is not limited!!!k.
2. The 1st release had all the ejector seat etc which is extra weight, great for a shelf queen, not for the track, again, the cheaper release of this still had all the mold marks.
3. In my opinion Carrera make some of the highest detailed cars, best price (when new) and great on the track.

This is why I will always pick the Carrera version of the car over the scaley, so bored with their lazy re releases.

The Carrera model is oversize and too long and too high. The wheels are awful. It has no elegance, and the DB5 should have elegance. It reminds me of a massive swollen savaloy trundling around the track. Rating 6/10

The Scalextric car is neat and tidy and beautiful. All that is wrong with it is that the usual 'no grip' Scalextric tyres mean you have to rely upon its massive magnet which bogs down sprightly performance. But the same could be said for the Carrera. Rating 10/10

Make sure you buy the Scalextric version without the blackened glass. These are cheap versions made for children, but a few greedy ripoff sharks on Ebay are selling them off at the same price as the more detailed models.

The Carrera version is almost exactly to scale. I don't have a Carrera Bond version to measure, but as it uses the same body as the race version, I've used that instead.

Carrera length: 142mm from front of orange front lights to rear of bumper. 142x32 = 4544. Full sized DB5 = 4570
Carrera width: 53mm. 53x32 = 1696. Full sized DB5 = 1680

I don't know the full size height dimension, but comparing these two photos, the model doesn't look far off.

Welcome El,
Carrera did a range of Bond cars, including a couple of Mustangs from Thunderball & Goldfinger.
This is the Goldfinger one, the other is powder blue with the roof up.

Cheers,

Have to say i agree with Srewneck the Carrera DB5 is oversize. Got the Scalextric Goldfinger Aston for Christmas and the roof is wider on the Carrera compared to Scalextric and old Airfix.

I prefer the Carrera DB5 to the Scaley one - they've got the hips all wrong over the rear arches which puts the whole thing out of wack. Neither of them are great and the Carrera one is now silly money, so for my money the best options for a 007 car out of the box would be the Scalextric Aston DBS or the Carrera Aston Vanquish.

You've got plenty of options if you like to scratchbuild or modify though!

From Scalextric, I think the Goldfinger DB5 will be the only Bond car to bother with of the 3 they are releasing.
As some say, it may not be the perfect mould of a DB5 however the Carrera version is not viewed by all as perfect either.

The Goldfinger DB5 presentation is very nice so unless a better mould with better presentation is released then this version will settle as the iconic "Bond" slot car to have.

As mentioned, and I bitched about, Scalextric failed by not manufacturing a screen accurate unmodified DB5 for the Casino Royale version which suggests they will fail again if they use the same mould for the final model in the series.

Having come to terms with Scalextric's poor effort in not producing an unmodified DB5 for the Casino Royale version and the 007 licence holders obvious acceptance of a sub standard effort by Scalextric, I'm happy to settle on the Goldfinger DB5 and pass on the other 2 releases in the set.

I think they're all rubbish !

I'd rather have a savaloy & chips from my local anyday.

Now...

...The white 'underwater Lotus' from 'The Spy Who Loved Me'...

...THAT was a cool Bond car...

...The coolest ever ???

Did it ever get made as a slot, or any Lotus bodys for a conversion ?

I haven't seen one, enyone else seen one ?

Those were the days...Roger Moore.

I bet he did.

Cheers

Si.
