You are of course talking about the MPC model of the Dean Jeffries re-bodied Maserati GP car fitted with a hot-rodded Chevrolet small block engine.

It actually came in three colors. Most common is the gold, the metallic red being a shade more difficult and the green quite scarce, all have silver body sides.

My green one has gold sides. When I first started looking on eBay in 1997 I saw a beautiful blue one with silver sides. I thought about bidding on it but thought that for over $125 I'll wait for the next one. Never seen another...

I did a little search after seeing this topic , to try and sort out my confusion and here's what I found out. The gas cap on the real car , and in the MPC ad, is on the left side of the car , yet the slot car version is moved to the right side! The motor in the real car is shown as a Ford Cobra which is on the valve covers and it is fitted with Weber carbs. I assume the slot version is a copy of this but can't say for sure.

There are two distinct versions of the Nichimo Manta Ray, one with brass chassis, the other with aluminum chassis.
One has a green body, the other a Gray body.

Brad, I forgot about the blue MPC model, indeed, there were some in that color and they are very elusive...
The most common is definitely the gold example.

Wow... wow Wow !!! super impressed with the shots of the Michimo series 1 at LASCM.. AWESOME ! hhmm... so i wonder which is rarer... the MPC (geen) or Nichimo (brass) ??

I totally missed those shots.. I thought I'd seen everything on the site.. (50 times over)

note: Next month I fly into USA for a short break.. landing in NY, but I am slowly scheming to make a little pilgrimage over to LA especially to wander about the museum... not sure if I'll all together enjoy the whole experience though..... as I'm sort of guessing one would feel similar to a 4 year old let loose in a toy shop & specifically told don't touch anything !!!

Where can I find a kit like that... mmm brass...

I will be pleased to give you a personal tour whenever you descend on Los Angeles.

It is truly mind blowing, and the website does not even begin to give you a proper picture...

TS : Count me in mate... I'll definitely hook up for a tour of the museum.

I`m trying to map out my pilgrimage to take in a couple of swap meets along the way from NY to LA. I'll be in Maryland around the 20th Sept. to catch up with a long lost cousin & I believe there's 2 swap meets happening somewhere in the area.. just not sure what the heck I did with the sticky note..

An interesting installation currently being setup in L.A Art museum. It says it'll be on display in FALL 2011
