Incredible!

I just whooshed through it, and it's amazing what you can pick up just from the use of the Emoticons and some very shaky Spanish! So less than thirty quid buys you a reasonable sized figure of eight circuit and two four wheel drive cars. I think there is some consternation at the fact that the company producing this (which has to be the same producer that Techni-Toys use, surely) can ship it for this price, while SCX branded product is 4-5 times the cost.

Now the question is: Have TechniToys shot themselves in the foot by allowing this and upsetting their regular Spanish customers or have their legal department not tied things up tightly enough to prevent this "copying" or, of course, taking their lead from the Spanish firms in the past (SCX McLaren MP4. Ninco Harrods McLaren GTR) have the Chinese just gone ahead, leaving the worrying about consequences till later.

And will Grah soon be reporting a new find in the pound shops over here?

You summed it up perfectly, Jim

The legal status is not that clear : it looks like a gray market importer (the sets are only sold in the Valencia area) - cars and track have been modified just enough that they may escape SCX's wrath

But the message is quite clear : like sneakers and apparel, the Chinese aren't dumb enough (matter of fact, those I worked with were not dumb at all !!) to keep doing subcontract work for a pittance and leave the fat profit in westerners' pockets

So, you either keep ahead of them with innovation, or ....

My Espanol isnt too good but I think I know what thats about.

A Bablefish translation of the Spanish post to English. Informative and amusing...

"Scalextric" it marks to JIADA or something thus... It is that I have approached a store of toys near house and looking for scalextrics in the distance I see the boxes in mogollon and piled up....me I approach not without letting notice something strange and oh surprise! I see that they are an imitation. Thinking that they would be of those crummy cripple in a box, I open it and I see that it takes 2 cars 1:32 with its brushes and so (minardi and the jaguar) obvious without any type of reference to both marks nor publicity with real names but both cars are immediately identifiable. The circuit is an ellipse I create of 2-3 straight lines by side and 8 curves to estandar, two controls calcaditos to which give to SCX in their circuits and the transformer that announces like superwuoster or something thus. Impeccably sealed Tdo. The tracks are compatible with scalextric although they seem to have less grip and to be more rigid. Good because the price of the set ascends to the amount of.....24!!!!! euros.... Some of you is vsto that way, it knows it, it is worth the trouble......

My favorites are:

mogollon - What's a mogollon and why are the boxes in it?

crummy cripple in a box - A bit harsh for just a game leg, don't you think?

the transformer that announces like superwuoster - I want one of those!

I reckon there must be a certain amount of cheap slotcar sets in different country's. A round the time of the NSCC milton Keynes swapmeet 2004. I was at my local Argos store. And picked up a Carrera 1/32 Lemans set with the Bentley and Audi for £17.99!!!
There must be other Poundshop bargins around the world??

A friend of mine came to visit me from out of town, Johannesburg, and I took him and his 4 year old son to the club one evening. the kid was a real natural. But the best off all was the look and expressions on his face.

So the weekend he, my friend, came across these sets in a local chinese cash & carry store. It's the F1 oval and it only cost him R160 (just over $20). the afternoon he phoned me to come and have a look at it. I must say it's not too bad. Everything is based on SCX. The controllers, tracks and powersupply is compatible with with SCX.

The cars are not too bad. I could not test it on a "real" track, but they stick pretty well on the track included. The 2 best parts of the cas is that they are not tamp printed and just covered with decals and it's very easy to remove. The stickers are pretty crummy and all the sponsors are spelled wrong. The other things is, although they are basically SCX chassis, the front wheels does not turn and have a metal straight axle through. So no chassis to break. I want to get a set just for the cars. Maybe repaint them in Ferrari colours but mostly for children to race with on my wooden track.

It's interesting that these sets seem to appear where there's a local Chinese community (that's the case in Valencia)

Performance is reported on par with SCX - slightly slower mag, faster (softer tires) non-mag

Mogollon: it is an expression. It means "a lot of something...".

That sentence, means: I see a "mogollon" of boxes == I see a lot of boxes.

My best regards.

I bought a set with the F1 Jaguar and Williams and the decals DO have funny sponsors - Hale and Badly replacing HSBC and Becks.

The set looks a superb copy of SCX with the colours and box artwork excellent replicas and the name of the set is WALLOP!!

The set is in mint condition.

I bought it on ebay and think I paid a good price - but I am invariably wrong and someone will say what I should have paid and it will be less than what I actually did!! ( Of course given sufficient incentive (£££!!) I could part with it!!

It looks as if it hasn't been used - some of the track still has elastic bands holding the peices together in the box.

All the items look as if they are modelled on SCX except it is made in slightly lower standard and less flexible plastic.

I can probably email some pics to interested parties.

I bought this set in China for about 20 pounds, (with 2 F1 and 2 4wd rally cars) I've just been on holiday to Spain and had a close look at the SCX (non-digital) sets and it's identical, including the controllers and bridges. Cars are not as detailed but they run well. Have a look at Spanish ebay.

sorry, did the photo link wrong - try again

I paid more than £20 - but didn't have to go to China!!

Not sure what shipping from Spain would be as it's quite a large and heavy parcel.

The pic is exactly what I have except for the cars. Thanks for posting it.
