Hi,

My names Jono, I'm 31 and I've just bought my first slot car set.

about 7 years ago a friend brought out his set and we all got right into it. It was Scalextric i think.

I now have 2 sons; a 3.5 year old and 11 month old.

I bought the set primarily for myself and mates for a laugh over a few beers come Friday night, but also for my eldest.

I did some reading and decided to buy a Ninco track (starter pro v11), but there was a deal on Scaley cars so I got three of the super tough ones (Lambo Murcie, 997 GT3 and Audi R8 LM), and also a Ninco lap timer.

Its great to find this great source of information!

Welcome to the forum Jono

Very good choice in choosing a Ninco track, best track you can get IMO, I to started off with a small track when my two were at a similar age to yours and never looked back.

Must admit I didn't buy the track for my kids it was for me!

We have a few people visiting our club with the cover story that their kids are interested in racing, ah but we can see through the story and what they really want lol!!

I'm sure you will get the bug and really enjoy this hobby and one day you might even enter a comp or two.

Have fun

Hi "J",

you have a local "slot-shop" with a big fast track ??!!.

Where are you located ??.

It helps to know where new slotforumers are, sometimes changing response relative to likely enthusiasm, etc etc .

Not many local "slot-shops" in the UK for example.

Hi Jono. Welcome to the wonderful world of Slot-addiction.

I'd be inclined to have a chat to the lad's at Armchair Racer. Jim, Jason, Kevin and the others will see you right. Choice of car is a subjective thing, but if you're looking to join in on their Tuesday night racing then picking something out of the classes they run is a good way to start. The details for their Tuesday night classes will be listed on the website.

Other than that it depends largely on the sort of car you like. Probably hard to go past the Slot.it selection in bang for buck category (although I don't like any of them other than the GT40). I think Armchair race them sans-magnet. NSR are good if you're in the mood to spend a bit more money (not sure that Armchair race them as a class). I think they race American muscle as a magnet class.

Not sure what Hornsby race with. Except that I believe their track is wired differently to the 'norm' for commercial tracks.

There are a few folk here that run at either or both establishments. They'll be happy to give you tips and pointers.

I'm rather jealous of you having a few commercial venues within reach.

Cheers
Embs
