hello people of THE SLOT CAR WORLD
after watching the le mans 24 hour a while ago (it was a good race) actually so good that i want to have a part of my collection just to these cars, so I've got a few questions
1. is the scalextric C3011 still avilable to buy? if not is there a newer version of it?\
2 Is any company bringing out an Audi R18 TDI? if not is there any scrath builder who will make and sell one to me at a reasonable price?
thanks that is all!

Probably your best bet will be Milan Tomasek at MTR32 - his lexan bodies look stunning and he turns around new models much faster than the big mannies. Performance is supposed to be strong as well, but can't speak from experience.

Presumably there will be a glut of new cars soon anyway. You can take your pick from Avant, Carrera, Scalextric and SCX with the Peugeot and R10 - although any R18 will probably have to be impact resistant!

Hi, the C3011 Peugeot 908 is one of the cars I need/want to put with my other 908's. They pop up occasionally on the bay and I'm quite sure that there are some shops in Oz with them still in stock. You can also still get C2898,which is the black Peugeot test car and C2897 which has the red/white/black livery from 2008 I think. There is also the new C3195 Peugeot 908 Matmut which is due very soon(this month I think) and should be another fast car to add to the collection. I picked up the C2898 and C2897 the other week for $39eaAu,I've only seen the C3011 for around $70 so far. If you or anyone else knows of any more of these Peugeot 908's that are available I'd sure like to know. You can also get these in Carrera,Scx and Avant slot, maybe there are other brands as well,I'm not sure. If you can get yourself these cars they are great on the Scaley sport track and are probably my quickest cars-definately up there with the slot.its. I'd like to have 6 different liveries for a full 6 car grid.
Cheers
Matt

QUOTE (Porsche Racer @ 8 Jul 2011, 03:09) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>The Scalextric Peugeot 908 is a fantastic runner. I've got 2 of them and love how quick they are.
Electric Dreams still has the C2897

As mattcrackers mentioned this one is coming out this month.

The Avant slot version of that car is far superior! - 50311 is the model number. It even has the 24 hour decals that Scalextric leave out among others

Then way not the third one on the splitter?

The reason why Scalextric left out the LM decals is because it's the LMS version. (White line underneath the #4 and red on white "P1" instead of white on red.) Though they left out that logo also. Has to do with copyrights and money I think.
Oreca 908 2010 LMS

Both cars look great but both have also missed more then a few decals. The colour scheme on the Scalaxtric looks better to me except for the ridiculous roof. It has the correct frontlights and has winglets.

I agree that the Scalextric is the better looking car by far. And it has the lights already built in. If you run magnets, the Scalextric version has a much stronger magnet than the Avant Slot as well making it feel like it truly has "downforce"

Because they can't master driving a mag car on the edge? Much easier to drift a non-mag car and feel the edge. I drive and prep both types so I guess I am an omnivore...

I love the magnet debate! I run without, and i can drive very competitive with. I think if you're a slot racer you can race any scale, any discipline, and still be able to manage it. I've never raced wing cars etc but anything any scale hard body and 60's ruskit kinda stuff i can be fast with in about 5 minutes. The big difference for the mag guys is when you crash you spend more time picking up the bits! (and the bits are smaller)...

These sports prototype cars are quick regardless of what your discipline is. If you run non-magnet in otherwise standard form, then avant slot will surely demolish the scaley version. One of the guys at my club has fitted the scaley 908hdi with a 21.5k slot.it motor and the chassis handles the extra go nicely.

On an availability point of view these cars are in fact pretty thin on the ground in oz. Retailers don't tend to get huge numbers in as they tend to be more of a newbie/kids/niche car, so each Christmas they sell out. I'm sure somebody has them but at ged's we sold out over 12 months ago, of the peugeot and the audi. Having said that you might be lucky going to a random toyworld...

Really, enough with the magnet debate already!

Scaley cars generally look nicer and better proportioned than Avant Slot (Porsche LMP2 aside). I've only got one LMP and mine's an Avant because we run box-stock with no magnet and in those regulations the Avant is king. BUT Scaley cars can be made to run as fast if you want the bother (and your club regs allow).

Back to the question in post #1: go for it, you'll find the model that you want before too long and a range of R18s from various manufacturers will doubtless be along soon!

QUOTE (thestig514 @ 10 Jul 2011, 17:34) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hi,

Going back to the first post; Le Mans Miniatures are the only manufacturer I know of who are going to make the Audi R18 TDI.

According to MRE, the test car is due in November.

Cheers,

Wow
, I really hope that is not the case as LMM cars are
expensive....hope Carrera or Scaley at least CONSIDERS making R18's....they'd be mad NOT to....

Audi did a 1 - 2 - 3 finish with the R15+ and only LMM have announced that car so far, so a win at Le Mans gives no assurance about a future release ...

NSR will make a Le Mans prototype but they didn't say which car it will be. It could be an Audi or an ORECA, or something else, I don't know. That model is to be released by the end of the year.

The problem with the R18 being produced is the same as the problem with the R15. Lack of decorations. While there are techinically (3) different liveries from this years race, to a slot car company looking for mass production, they are all three gray cars.

I would like to see them from Scaley or Carrera (my preference since I run D132) or SCX- but I do not expect it.

That is unfortunately true...

Scaley is doing the Lola Aston LMP car....same livery....different numbers.....slightly different advertisements....but still the same Gulf livery, can't see why "lack of decorations" should be a problem.
