Hi can any body help
i bought some second hand cars at the weweekend porsche 963 and a jaguar xj8,
now the lights work but the wheels dont, the engine spins round but the cog that spins the wheels slips
do i need to reglue the cog or is this not the problem
hope somebody can help

Sounds like you need a couple of new pinions (the small white cog). I assume you are referring to the Scalextric Group C cars- Porsche 962 and Jaguar XJR9- and it was a common problem on hornby cars of that era to split their pinions. Gluing is not really a satisfactory fix as the split in the cog affects the gear mesh and will cause lumpy running and ultimately damage to the crown gear.

You can buy them from decent slot car stockists as well as a number of online stores.
I had a similar problem just recently which was fixed by a new pinion gear.

Either! Make sure you ask for pinions for inline-motored cars, the sidewinder gears are too big! Hornby have updated the pinions with a collar at one end, so they will look a bit different. These still split between the gears though, but don't usually come loose on the shaft.

aw god, i rmeber the old scalex cars, i would have been about....7? the pinions constantly split

If you have cars that split their pinions before they blew their lightglobes then you either have cars from another planet or ones that haven't been used much.

Get a new set of white pinions (cogs). Pull the old one off with pliers (IF you need them) and tap a new one on with a piece of tubing hit by a hammer (or something). You can get these pinions from loads of good website stockists (Pendleslotracing 10 quid for an handful, Slotcity, Getslotted, etc.) or try your local stores.
You can get the right tool from Pendle or whomever under Ninco spares if you don't want to faff about with tubing and a hammer, etc. but they cost about 8 quid. However, the white plastic pinion pulls off and can be tapped on quite easily.

lol, I've just replaced the lights as well as the pinion on one of my old porsche cars!
