I began this build in March 2021, with first laps taking place in May 2021. I’ve spent most of my time on it for twelve months now and it’s getting there. I have entombed my old track underneath as it’s 50+ years old so I won’t be throwing it out. I chose to build a new layout as the lane spacings were too narrow. With 100mm lane spacing I can run what I like. I’ll throw in a few posts of the build today and after that the landscape as it has developed into something of a typical Australian style.

Ferrador base followed by white, black and grey spray can mist coats, later topped with clear urethane. The look is just what i wanted.

The first laps were fraught with danger!!!!

The grandstand was reclaimed from my previous layout. Constructed from scratch using brass, balsa and craft wood from the cheap random stuff shop. Fences are also wood, this time coffee stirrers via eBay, I ordered 1,000 of them and still have some left

Gantry. I do enjoy building balsa structures in this fashion.

…Because I can. Meet Stan the T-Rex. He’s a Kmart kids archaeological dig kit which I did without the help of my kids. When ‘dug out’ I painted him up and after soaking what he was buried in when I got him I returned him to the same medium and allowed him to dry. I always wanted to do this on the side of a track, and now I have, yay me.

It soon became apparent that my fences in area were both too close and in need of tyre walls to help cushion the impact from the bigger 1/24 cars.

Pewter Armco. It’s not my finest work but it’s good enough. The old Scalextric pit building is temporary.
