I think the haze and trees not being hidden behind fences and sponsor hoardings really gives it a mid 80’s feel.

I purchased a Vallejo air rust effects paint set and went to work on a Tasman proxy Lotus chassis that never got sent as I built a better Cooper.
I followed the instructions in the box and ended up with this

In situ it looks really good, although it’s easily overlooked.

Italeri field tool shop bits in a pit garage. I have another table and vice which I did many years ago that I will refinish for another of the garages as this one came out really well

The idea is the pewter is easily damaged (fun) and as a result will not last long nor protect the garage very well. Behind is this structure

I’ve gone for a chalky rusted finish. I’m happy with it, even though it will rarely be seen

That seems to have worked very well, isn't that what you are trying to achieve, visually spotting the odd peace of history of the race track. looking for something else in and around the track that you have not seen before. I think we'll done!
Cheers,
John.

I was too busing doing to stop to take photos for showing. I guess it’s styrene and glue, but the thought process (or lack there of) is much more easily described with images. Oh well.
Bottom floor toilets, price gauging food outlet and stairs to level one. Level one timekeepers, race control, level two will have a commentator and clerk of the course. That’s the idea anyway. First shots after three days of glue sniffing.

Modular so I can get in and paint, set a scene etc. I may do working doors with actual toilets etc, I may also glue doors shut and not bother.

Once complete I’ll build the gantry, after that I’m considering revisiting the large grandstand, or even making a smaller grandstand at the esses where the woodlands scenics pine trees currently reside, that section sucks.

12 hour day/night shift work, i work 14 days every 28. Each 28 day cycle i have two 5 day weekends and one 4 day weekend. This gives me plenty of time when i'm off to do what i must and what i want, and of course the flip side to this coin is when i'm working all i do is eat, work and sleep. With this in mind there won't be any progress for a little bit as i'm back in work eat sleep mode today :(

I work similar hours up at 4:30, home around 7:30, 12hrs a day, Wednesday to Wednesday, overtime on weekends if it's there, but with house renos almost done I might get some time for the track soon. Currently doing 8 weeks of 4 days with one bloke on A/L.

The plant room needed plant. What is it? I don’t know, clearly it must be that thing in the plant room right? It’s just gribbling with styrene. Should look nice hidden away when randomly observed.

Defs on the gauges. I hadn't thought about lighting it but it's easily done. I have some flashing led's, appropriate resistors and there's space to do it. I haven't put any effort into lighting anything other than the gantry to this point, I think i might use live power lines, it worked well on my last track with only the occasional car or marshalling snag.

An example of what the power lines looked like on the old layout, this shot from 2018. Note the esses at the top of the hill were replicated on the Loch Downs layout. I’m thinking something similar, possibly even use these.

Later on I added lamps to the power poles, I may do similar, keeping the pit and banked areas bright and the countryside dark.

Slight digression there, but yes, lit plant room thing is a good idea ;)

A staff entrance doorI may have drilled out 1.6mm styrene rod for the hinges and used the drill is a makeshift lathe to make the doorknob. Shock! It works perfectly well as a hinged door…
