When did you start this ??? 1 year ago ? That is a ridiculous amount of progress .....I'm still trying to take in the last 2 pages of photos & comprehend what you've done.

Amazing, amazing track mate. I'm going to have to go back to the start now & take a closer look at everything.

I'd pay to come & look at that !

Cheers

Mal.

Living in the most locked down part of the world meant my spare time was plentiful, and working in the supermarket warehousing industry throughout said lockdowns and associated panic buying frenzies meant my play money wasn’t an issue.
For those curious my street name is Loch, so Loch downs seemed a clever enough name - This was prior to the grand tour using it. My inspiration included Phillip Island, Brands Hatch and Fuji. I considered ‘Fuj Hatch’, the wife didn’t seem to find it amusing so Loch downs it is.
I’ll keep adding pics as I improve it.

Finally, a couple of shots taken today of where it’s at

The outside of the esses here is pretty basic with woodlands scenic pine trees. It’s an area that gets leant over so I can’t put a gum tree there so it’ll stay as is for now until I think of something better.

Based on this I assume your not too far from me, yell out if you ever need racers to test the limits of your layout 😎 I'm sure I could get organised.

It has been, although it is at present calm - for now. My area is refrigerated produce and I still don't understand why after hoarding Toilet paper, pasta, rice and tinned tomatoes people started panic buying broccoli, I mean sure fresh vegetables are good for health but you can't exactly hoard them.

I'm in Crib Point, maybe 70km south from Melbourne cbd. It's a semi rural (still zoned metro) hamlet on the Westernport bay side of the Mornington Peninsula. Sounds a bit flash but it's the 'affordable' area, or it was, house prices have doubled in 6 years. Visitors welcome, pm me.

The track doesn't suit foam tyres without treatment, and if treatment is used i insist on wiping the track clean with residue free grease remover before using rubber or urethane tyres. Best grip from rubber. Due to the lack of crossover lane length varies from 17.3 in yellow to 18.5 on red. Time variation approximately 1/10 per lane. I ommited the crossover for visibility reasons.
The fast flowing layout makes it difficult to dive bomb so passes need to be planned and well executed.
Lap record is a very low 4 with NSR 86-89 f1, a quick BRM 1/24 will circulate at around 5.2. Slot.it, Sideways and such circulate in the 4.4 -4.8 range. With treated foam i had a Platit 1900 chassis Hakasuka skyline circulate around 4.8 - 5.0 with little development. The Carrera 1/24 cars are still finishing thier lap....

Who knows what the freaking hell goes into the mind of people in such times.
So right now, I am 70km away from your track...
I am trying to get into 1/24 and I am looking at the plafit 1900 chassis...are they any good? are they still produced?

Ace hobby's gruntz or Mr slot car in Australia for Plafit and shows us your slots have some to! The 1900 is for your smaller cars and the 1900s is for your bigger car's like Falcons GT3's and don't forget about th Australian Slotworkx chassis either.

Hi Dick, the trees are coated in a plaster, pva and water mix applied with a brush in two coats, the first thicker than the second. The brush application helps offer a bark like effect, and i figure pva will add flexibility or some other magic to the plaster matrix. Truthfully i saw it on YouTube and went with it. I could have sanded the tree smooth for a less grainy texture, of course gum trees being what they are you have a good range of options. The foliage parts are seafoam dipped in diluted pva followed by a dunk into some foam foliage that went through a coffee grinder.
I've had my static grass applicator for a few years, ever since Ember showed her work off. It's good enough but it's the best cheapest one i could find. I've also acted as the earth a couple of times with it, which converts it into an involutary swearing and jumping device ⚡⚡o_O. I'll find it and take a pic shortly.

I managed to save a few bits Phil, and had to let a few bits go too. I would have liked to keep the vineyard but there was no way it would survive the move, a couple of the buildings are now entombed as well, including one that had the terracota roof tiles attache one by one. I couldn't see it working/fitting on this layout so it will gather dust for the foreseable future.

John the Plafit chassis are great, i make 1/24 hard bodies for them and have a ball. They are comparatively complex compared to most slot cars and that's part of the fun. My builds (which i really should share pics of) tend to cost betwen $160-$300 which for 1/24 isn't too silly.
I competed in the 2019 Plafit Nationals as Beastm's co driver, before then i had very little contact with them, i now have quite a few.
One issue has been people to race against. People are often scared to use my cars as they're 'too pretty' so i need to remind them that they're all doomed and i built them to race. My one friend that is willing to build them has bad luck with damage and gets frustrated that i can get an aesthetically pleasing car together in a week or so which doesn't explode on impact.
