Had a great time in Florida
! Spent some time looking for slot car shops and found the following ones:
R.C. Hobbies
6800 N University Dr
Tamarac, Fort Lauderdale FL
Claims to be the largest hobby shop in southern FL. However, the slot car section in the shop is very small: only a small number Carrara, Fly and SCX cars and some tsfr-chassies. There is one guy in the shop who has at least a small understanding in slot cars.

Slot Car Raceway
County Line Plaza
13974 W Hillsborough Av.
Tampa FL
(813) 925-8422
www.scrtampabay.com
Opening hours: Mo: closed, Tues-Friday: 3.30-9.00p.m., Sat: 1.00-10.00p.m., Sun 12.00-6.00p.m.
Good slot car shop with 2 large, wooden racetracks, to be used with flexi-cars. The shop has a large assortment of flexi-cars and accessories but only a limited assortment with Scaletrix and Spirit cars. Nice guy running the place.

The Race Place
1105-D Cave Ave.
(off LPGA Blvd., 1. street west of Holly Hill Industrial Park)
Holly Hill, FL 32117 (next to Daytona Beach)
(386) 295-1371 (it is advisable to call for appointment!)
Large slot car shop (also distributer) with a good assortment of Fly, Scaletrix, slot-it(!), MRRC, Carrera and others. This guy had all the latest models, also from slot-it! In the (some-how messy) shop were also about 5 racetracks (1 very large wooden, 1 large Carrera Excl. , 1 Scaletrix and 2 smaller HO-tracks)
Overall, just for slot cars, there is no need to travel to Florida! Maybe in other parts of the US, there might be a higher interest in slot racing. In general the assortment in large European slot car shops is better. The prices in US might be slightly lower then in Europe.
Luckily Florida has to offer lots of other beauties, still worth a trip!
