Love SCX

As per the Scalextric topic, I’d like to shine a spotlight on SCX cars.
They’re not the fastest cars, but somehow their speed is exactly right for my taste. Permitted it has a decent motor, because the biggest flaw with SCX is their inconsistent motoring of their models. I have pretty quick cars with an RX42B motor but also sluggish ones with the RX42. It’s never clear what’s under the bonnet.

Set aside that biggest flaw, once they’re run in I find many of their models a joy to drive.
These three especially: the Porsche, the Ferrari and the Seat.

Most modern SCX cars have a nice feature: a simple yet effective floating subchassis where motor and rear axle are placed, which permits body float and independent movement of the motor / rear wheels department. Front wheels are in general free of excessive play and form a sturdy front setup.
This gives the car - with simple measures - a pretty good road behaviour.
Wheels / tires in general are decent and easy to true. Some go round my track so quietly, it’s as if there’s alloy wheels attached: perfectly round and true.

the Seat in particular is a joy. It’s extremely wide, look how narrow the Porsche is in comparison.
It’s perfectly controllable in curves, it “hangs” on the throttle and I can control the amount of sliding with ease.

All in all I think SCX cars are as limited as Scalextrics, so no high end cars - but with such clever simple subchassis solutions, easy to improve their handling and pretty good on the track. A joy to race them! Now only they should fix their inconsistent motor line up 😊

Ah! Scx, here in Mexico we are more into the Scx than the Scaley, so it’s been a brand that everyone recognizes as “the hobby”, if you say slot cars around here nobody would understand what you are talking about but if you say Scx(Scalextric), everyone knows what’s this about!

In the clubs we run mostly RX41B, RX42B, RK42 and B types and the most recent FR42, even Nascars are all fitted with RX42B for club racing.

I collect Porsches and Vettes from Scx as my favs cars from the brand.😀

I think I have 12 or so SCX cars, including LMP, NASCAR, Sports and Rally from a while ago. Here are two of my favorites:

They run very well without the magnet and are truly more fun than they should be.

Several of the RX-42B motors in my other cars are dying and I have not been able to find replacements at a reasonable price. So, it looks like an adaptor for FC-130s is in their future.

I've lost interest in SCX in recent years and last bought one at least five years ago, but they made some great cars in the past. Rarely fast at 12 volts, but still great fun.

A few of my favourites:

Plymouth Barracuda - A 2010 livery rather than a period one, but to my eyes one of the nicest ever Barracuda racing colour schemes.

Audi R8, Le Mans 24hrs 2004. From SCX's Planeta Directo Collection: Circuit Legends. I'd love to see Slot.it produce this livery on its R8.

Malcolm Wilson's Ford Escort RS Cosworth - Manx International Rally 1994

Fiat Abarth 1000 - I don't know whether this is a real or fantasy livery, but it's a lovely car.

I've lost count how many scx cars I have, most are good fun without the magnets in and very little effort needed to get them running nice. My favourite is probably my Colin McRae Sierra Cosworth. But lots of my 4WD rally cars are very enjoyable drifting them around the track 😁😁

Wow some interesting cars on here.
I have not bought many.
Only recently the modern rally cross have sparked my interest...but they are not as good as ninco out of the box.
More like Scalextric. So I will buy 3dp chassis and parts to make them more enjoyable.
I would also commend their effort to refresh their offerings: they are doing TCR cars - which to me they look more appealing than BTCC.
So this will be another class that I will build.

What ever happened to SCX digital? I don't seem to hear about it anymore, I did however hear about an upgraded version and then nothing just curious!
I do have 3 SCX lane changes if anyone has a digital track and is still using it .
John.
A modern SCX rally car that also goes well. Just the rear tyres have been changed. I'm less keen on the silly box in which it's presented.

Thanks, it must be more prevalent in Spain than other parts of the world.
Part of the reason I have these lane changes I thought it was normal Scalextric back when I was just getting back into the hobby.
Cheers,
John.

OMG! The Cordoba! How many of those do I still have?? I was on the cusp of digging out the Ibiza collection (sounds like a Ministry of Sounds album) and taking a snap but now I'm thinking hang the expense of the film and find all the Seats and take a two snaps. 👍

The 4WD Audi 90. Everything is bog standard including the tyres. A wonderful slot car in all respects, and it even has lights, which are a bonus.
Mine is plain silver. I'll have to double check but I think I replaced the motor with an Avant Slot Hunter 4x4. Quite a wide car for its length(y)

Trisha, I have the same Loeb DS and yours has a droopy rear wing same as mine. I often wondered if I had a dodgy one, but it appears not 😁😁😂😂

That’s new, I would have never ever thought you liked electronic music Pedro! Even less you liked Seats, slot world is full of surprises 🙂

It helps when you crash (to have the wing lose)😉, otherwise it would break easily hehe.

About 15 years ago I decided to reduce my slot car collection just to the cars I loved driving most. It was a full set of SCX WRC machinery - Citroen Xsara, Ford Focus, Hyundai Accent, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII, Peugeot 206, SEAT Cordoba, Skoda Octavia, Subaru Impreza. Then I got seller’s remorse, but as a proof point for how much fun they are I think it’s valid.

We race several SCX classes at the club, of which the Ford Escort Mk2s and NASCARs are my favourites. Can’t think of an SCX car that looks bad or doesn’t make driving it a pleasure.

Much as I love SCX most of the time, there have been a few low scorers over the years.

In the looks department, the first 911 GT3 at the beginning of the Tyco Matchbox era is terrible. And the Mini is really not good, although it can be forgiven for being a re-pop of a 50 year old design.

As for driving pleasure, the 2CV didn't give the usual "get it out the box and run a load of laps" experience.
