Hi
I have kust bought 2 scalextricx metro 6r4's.

But they need substanstial remodelling to attain the correct look of the real car.

Does anyone have any instructions for making durable spoilers?
I know the bonnet will never look like this unless I use a resin/scratch built body, but I thought I might be able to mimic the rear spoiler and the enhanced bumpers at the front.

Thanks in advance

You might laugh - no, you will laugh - but I had these on my desk at Austin Rover when they first came out nearly 20 years ago.

Frustrated that it was devoid of wings I cut up one of my business cards and made the wings from that. Fixed with Pritt and spray mount then painted they looked pretty good. I used Milliput to extend the rear arch overt he door and I had - to my mind - a pretty good 6R4. It was certainly no worse that the Team Slot one pictured above - at least my front wing was straight!

Sadly, the dark ages (that period when I did not play with, or even buy slot cars!) saw my 6R4 chucked in a box and suffer a bit of damage. I decided years ago to do it properly (plastic card, etc) but only got as far as pulling of the business card extensions so I can't show you a picture.

I wouldn't recommend using an old business card, but it worked for me. I ma hoping SCX see the light and follow the excellent Delta Integrali with a range of 6R4s.

I laugh not
I threw away my mg metro's years ago only to buy some back at extortionate prices the other week.

I was going to go with this method not only for the doors but also for the bonnet.

Any photo's you do have no matter how bad will surely be a help.

cheers

Although owner of the two cars you display above, I'm sorry but I can't really help. As you will have read from my site the Scalextric car is based on the prototype 6R4 and so only ever had the side skirts that it has in the picture. The only mistake Scalextric made was the grill and lack of centre bonnet groove.

The TeamSlot car has the extended body of the final version of the 6R4 so it would be incorrect to convert your Scalextric ones unless you extend the body as well.

The front and rear spoilers are flat so use plastic card for them and as the sides are basically a box shape should also work for them, possibly with balsa wood lining as suggested for strength.

Before I realised that there was a difference in this car I did have a Vacform body that was built around the Scalextric car (from Pendle I think). If you could obtain a copy of this you might be able to use it to cast the side pods in resin. I used the interior plate to cast the engine that can be seen in other pictures of the Blue car.

OOPs

Too late.
I have already modded them both.
1 by adding the opening in the bonnet and the second by extending the skirt over the door.

Doesn't matter though as they both look cool.

I may give the spoilers a miss though, I can see trouble with them coming off in cases of bad accidents.

Just got sort out a decent place to house a magnet and I will be ready to give them a nice paint job.

Thanks anyway.

Just got two more on ebay, to make the set of four. I think I'll just add a rear spoiler from a couple of strips of plasti-card & give 'em a paint job. So I'll be busy, what with stiffening up the from body roll as well.

Good luck,

you mention in your website
QUOTE The new wheels, not only look similar to the originals are also deep dished which was a characteristic of this car.

What wheel size are they?

I am looking at some gom ones at the mo but I am open to alternatives.

Also where did you get the vac-form mould from?

It would be cool to have the engine in the back like yours, I could also have a stab at to the bonnet bulges then!

cheers

I think the wheels came off a Porsche that was obtained at a swap meet. It was a couple or so years ago and a make I cannot remember (at the time I only knew of Scalextric). Looking at Pendles website it could have been a Proslot 911. Had a terrible body but I liked the look of the wheels and was trying any make of chassis for scratch builds. The Metro body might need to be cut depending on what you fit.

Vac form was from Pendle. The engine was all wrong, and I will scratch build when I do the next, but with a few extras it passes.

Bonnet bulges should be quite easy with milliput.

I tried this last night but it looked wrong.

I will try again when I get some decent refernce material.
I may also hang on with the resprays and try the spoilers if I can find some good tips.

I have never modelled using plasticard so I am dubious about using it.
Hopefully barcardibeast will be able to help with this.
