At last Tony has updated the current championship positions on his website. Unfortunately, he still hasn't corrected the errors we pointed out to him in the round two results. Tony has two points too many, and Nick's score has been swapped with mine, depriving me of six championship points!

sorry i missed last night: our cat was in a RTA last Thursday, and he came out from the vet last night. broken front leg, broken hip, damaged eye, and probably other things he can't tell us about. he needs a lot of help until he works out how to move about

hopefully i'll be there next week: depends how he gets on and when his hip operation will be.

in the meantime, a couple of questions i wanted to ask about the next classes......

GP class: can we have a list of eligible cars (i glaze over about cars that raced before i was born)

SCX GT class: does this include the Seat? SCX call it a GT

Hi Chris, sorry to hear about your moggy. Last Thursday you say?? Hmmm! Nick doesn't go past your house on his way home, does he??

We discussed the Seat (I'm assuming you mean the Cupra) last night and it's in!

As for front-engined GP, any of the Cartrix cars that come in tins - apart from that American thing, Wurlitzer or whatever it's called- so Merc W196, Maserati 250 F, Ferrari 555, BRM P25 and even the Lotus 16 which will hopefully be out during the course of this class's run. Recent Scaley Vanwall & 250F and again, but looking less hopeful, the new Ferrari that they're doing for their 50th Anniversary will be eligible when it's out. Power & Glory BRM & Vanwall and even old race tuned versions from the 60s. Hell, pin guide or loop braid versions if you want, which would then allow another Lotus 16 to race.

MRRC also did Vanwall & 250F Maser, but some of them are brass chassised, so may fall foul of that particular club rule.

I picked up a Hornby set twinpack of Vanwall & Maser for Reuben at MK on Sunday and did suggest to him that you may be in the market for one. Perhaps you could PM him about it??

Oih, I resemble that
. I have to say that with my recent "kill" record the moggy would have been a goner!

Nick

And who is Chris anyway?

thanks, I'll ask about the Vanwall and 250. may take place of GT as i have a Cupra.

budget got very tight when the vet's bill appeared! and he needs an operation yet.

i just hope the car has a VERY big dent.

Chris is a Monday night only racer in the same way as you're a Thursday night only racer. Wheras I swing both ways. Ahem! As it were!

I'm surprised you two haven't bumped into each other on a "practise night" though!

Not that I know anything about them.

The Indy Roadsters do qualify as fifties GP cars because the Indianapolis 500 was also an Official World Championship Grand Prix from 1950 until 1959. The yellow Cartrix car is actually a model of Johnny Parson's 1950 Indy 500 winning Kurtis-Kraft Wynn's Special. The 8 points awarded for this win earned Parson's 6th place in the 1950 F1 World Championship. The Kurtis-Kraft Offenhauser is a very famous car in American Motor Racing history, having won Indy five times; in 1950, 1951, 1953 , 1954, and 1955.
I am now hanging up my anorak (but I haven't said I won't put it on again later!)

Before you close the cloakroom door, Peter, does this mean that a Scalextric front engine Offenhauser will be eligible?

The short answer is no. The white Scalextric model is a (rather poor) representation of the 1964 winning car, a Watson-Offy as driven by AJ Foyt.

And aren't the other Scalextric Offy's the same car moulded in different coloured plastic?

Ah, thanks! It's probably a good thing that I can't race it, they have the power to weight ratio of a V8 in a wheelbarrow.

As for the other Scalextric Offys I'm not quite sure what you mean. The front engined one was generally available in light blue or white whereas the rear engined version was red or yellow. But they couldn't ever be confused as the same car. Even with your eyesight

I was referring to the front engined cars. There is also a red one and a yellow one, both front engined, but only released in Australia and New Zealand.

As a heads-up for those who court publicity and a warning for those who shy away from it, I thought I'd let you all know that we will have the pleasure of a visit from the Portsmouth Evening News on Monday night. It's all part of the Scalextric 50th Anniversary and they're looking at it from a local firm's success story angle. It's a good job we're running a couple of Scalextric classes at the moment! So polish up those cars, best bib & tucker on and definitely no swearing or taking it too seriously

A couple of Scalextric classes? I can only think of one. Am I going senile?

Well the Non Ninco/Proslot touring car class usually has a few Hornby cars running. I did actually think that perhaps I would run Hornby cars in all 5 classes as it's the last night of the series and Steve has already wrapped it up. But running a Hornby truck is above and beyond the call.........

We're in the papers, lads! There's a great article in the Portsmouth News today, complete with colour pictures of some of our ugly mugs.

They say "Seeing is believing" and "Don't believe everything you see in the papers".
Well here is a picture from the aforementioned Portsmouth News article:

It shows me with Tony on my left and, ummm...........Tony on my right. No wonder he won that night - he had us surrounded!
