Hi Chris, sorry to hear about your moggy. Last Thursday you say?? Hmmm! Nick doesn't go past your house on his way home, does he??

We discussed the Seat (I'm assuming you mean the Cupra) last night and it's in!

As for front-engined GP, any of the Cartrix cars that come in tins - apart from that American thing, Wurlitzer or whatever it's called- so Merc W196, Maserati 250 F, Ferrari 555, BRM P25 and even the Lotus 16 which will hopefully be out during the course of this class's run. Recent Scaley Vanwall & 250F and again, but looking less hopeful, the new Ferrari that they're doing for their 50th Anniversary will be eligible when it's out. Power & Glory BRM & Vanwall and even old race tuned versions from the 60s. Hell, pin guide or loop braid versions if you want, which would then allow another Lotus 16 to race.

MRRC also did Vanwall & 250F Maser, but some of them are brass chassised, so may fall foul of that particular club rule.

I picked up a Hornby set twinpack of Vanwall & Maser for Reuben at MK on Sunday and did suggest to him that you may be in the market for one. Perhaps you could PM him about it??

QUOTE (Nick49 @ 20 Feb 2007, 13:22) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>And who is Chris anyway?

Chris is a Monday night only racer in the same way as you're a Thursday night only racer. Wheras I swing both ways. Ahem! As it were!

I'm surprised you two haven't bumped into each other on a "practise night" though!

Not that I know anything about them.

Before you close the cloakroom door, Peter, does this mean that a Scalextric front engine Offenhauser will be eligible?

QUOTE (pressbutton @ 22 Feb 2007, 22:38) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>The short answer is no. The white Scalextric model is a (rather poor) representation of the 1964 winning car, a Watson-Offy as driven by AJ Foyt.

And aren't the other Scalextric Offy's the same car moulded in different coloured plastic?

Ah, thanks! It's probably a good thing that I can't race it, they have the power to weight ratio of a V8 in a wheelbarrow.

As for the other Scalextric Offys I'm not quite sure what you mean. The front engined one was generally available in light blue or white whereas the rear engined version was red or yellow. But they couldn't ever be confused as the same car. Even with your eyesight

As a heads-up for those who court publicity and a warning for those who shy away from it, I thought I'd let you all know that we will have the pleasure of a visit from the Portsmouth Evening News on Monday night. It's all part of the Scalextric 50th Anniversary and they're looking at it from a local firm's success story angle. It's a good job we're running a couple of Scalextric classes at the moment! So polish up those cars, best bib & tucker on and definitely no swearing or taking it too seriously

Well the Non Ninco/Proslot touring car class usually has a few Hornby cars running. I did actually think that perhaps I would run Hornby cars in all 5 classes as it's the last night of the series and Steve has already wrapped it up. But running a Hornby truck is above and beyond the call.........

I was hoping that somebody with a better memory than me would reply to you, Chris, but as they haven't........

I think the saloons was described as any under 2-litre 60's saloon. So as well as the two you mentioned, you have Minis, Abarths, Simca 1000, Beetles, 2CVs. Probably NSU and Trabant as well!

The 60's LeMans cars was limited to MRRC & Revell brands only. I did suggest Carrera too, so that the Aston DB5s could get a run, but can't remember how that was received.

Sorry it's a bit vague, but I'm just in the middle of sorting out a class change at Liphook where we've just finished running a 60's LeMans class and are about to run both 60's saloons and 70's F1. All to different peoples specs

QUOTE (Pitstop Pansy @ 16 Jun 2007, 16:09) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>when i looked at the Revell cars for saloons, a lot of them seemed to be 70's. Guess i'll be sticking with the Escort.

Actually.....

[Anorak alert] The Revell NSU, Simca and Trabant are all very much 60's cars, the 70's references are probably the date of the event the car ran at. But the Escort Mk1 had more of a production run in the 70's than the 60's. [/Anorak alert]

Unfortunately, the Trabby and the Simca are front motored, so you are probably better off with an Escort.

And another thing........

I just read a great article in this month's NSCC newsletter about the first three "new gen" Scaley Escorts and it seems that they are all from 70s rallies. So if that puts you off, perhaps a Cortina would fit the bill.

Both the original and the recent Scaley Escorts are RS1600s. That particular version of the Mk1 didn't arrive till 1970. The previous car was probably a Lotus engined "Escort Twin Cam". It's academic anyway, as for the purposes of this class it's a Mk1 Escort.......from the '60s.

Chris, I found out today that the Renault 12 was introduced in September '69, so if you've got a French Scalextric R12 Gordini..............

Quiet morning in the recovery world, so I just had a few cupboards open to see what I could come up with for the new classes. Managed to sort out a different car (not just livery changes either) for each of the four "proper" classes for all of the eight rounds

GroupC/GTP was the hardest class to find eight for, but the other three classes were over subscribed and I had to do some "selection". Oddly, though I am not an F1 fan, the 70s F1 class had over 20 candidates
.

Trouble is, if I have to miss a round for some reason which car(s) will I leave out

2002 was introduced into the UK in March '68, Peter. And the 1600, which was the first, orange model Spirit released, came a year before.

I saw that, but didn't make the connection straight away.

Good luck to Dave.

Monday night's round of the Manor Farm Championship has had to be postponed due to the latest outbreak of foot and mouth. Tony's contact numbers are in the header if anyone needs to get any further info.

Steve from the Gosport club has contacted me to suggest that we may want to use their track on Monday night. It would cost about £30 for the use of the hall. I have already got something else planned for Monday night but if anyone wants to organise the meeting I can PM Steve's mobile no. Certainly worth thinking about if this foot and mouth problem should continue beyond next week.

Yes, I saw that last night. It is a worry and not just from a "spoiling our slot racing" point of view. I think Rogate is probably actually nearer Home Farm (Liphook) than Clanfield though.

If I hear any more I'll post here ASAP but at the moment Manor Farm is to re-open Thursday for racing. With suitable precautions in place!

Certainly is the mid-engined one 'cos of it's fat 'arris.

I just hope the SCX Escort will give them a bit of a challenge! Otherwise that class will be "Spir it or forget it!"

Mind you, if the numbers don't soon pick up, we might not even make it that far.

Looks like you were right about Reubens age, Chris. Last night anyway!

Many happy returns, minimental.

BTW Thursday is cancelled due to two of our stalwarts not being able to attend. Robin using the weak excuse of it being his 50th wedding anniversary
And Nick for daughter/education related excuses.

Besides, we couldn't possibly hold a meeting without being able to look forward to Nick's unbiased race report the following morning
