I just p/u a SCX Lola Ford Formula Indy car #83470.20 from a small shop in town. The box says its from matchbox/Tyco toys limited UK circa 1995? On the bottom of the model it says SCX china? I was under the impression that SCX was a Spanish Company whos cars were made in Spain. My question is this REALLY a SCX car or a Scaley car? or what? The car is red and white with the driver Fermin Velez and no magnet to be seen. The motor looks to be a RX-41? Any insights would be great!

The car you just bought is an SCX car, it is in fact a re-livery of the Mclaren MP4 which was and still is in some cases a favourite with racers in non magnet F1 classes. If my memory serves me right SCX Exin went bust and was bought by Tyco who renamed it SCX Matchbox and switched production to China where it has remained ever since despite being taken over again and currently branded SCX Technitoys. Can I add another question about SCX cars?

Ok... thanks.

Which car manufactured by SCX will NOT run on SCX track due to having a guide that is too deep?

Well as there's no prizes on offer I'll tell you.

I got fed up looking at the silver tin containing the SCX Sigma and thought I would put it on my SCX track and see how it ran (I could always use the tin for biscuits!).

It doesn't go anywhere as the guide is too deep.

Is it me?

No, j-c, you're shallow!

Is it really '95 that SCX introduced that Lola Indy?

I remember seeing it in the catalogue at the toyfair that year and thinking "Aha! A new chassis for my "proper" MP4 which had snapped the guide mount. But they moulded it in red and added two more body fixing screws. D'oh!

I think that was also the year that the retail price of an SCX F1 reduced from £27.95 to £9.99. They certainly could knock 'em out cheap in China!

Fury, that looks like a RX-41 because it is the preceeding RX-4. The motor to have at the time!

I'm starting to feel old, as you'll all find out as it's my birthday soon and I filled out that damn form thingy.

Mr M, you just brought memories flooding back about the London Toyfair where Gaugemaster, the distributors for SCX at the time announced the incredible price reductions in SCX prices, it seems funny that the same distributor is doing a similar thing now with Fly! Don't know wether to laugh or cry, Is there an icon for that?

While we're on the Toyfair nostalgia bit, Sean. Do you remember the Star Trek micro set on the Hornby stand that nobody could use because they reckoned the security guards had nicked the Enterprise and the "baddie" warship? I don't think it ever made it into production. I wonder if it was because they couldn't remember how they made them or because they obviously got a "cool" response from the trade.

Or the time that Nikko, I think, showed that 1:32ish RC slot track for the first time. They put 2 sets together to make an impressive layout on the stand and then found out that the cars couldn't make it all the way round the lap to recharge unless you didn't use the steering/lane changing function, which was supposed to be the selling point over conventional slots.

I wonder how many other things flopped because of poor demonstration.
