Merc’s Christmas holiday racetrack for the 2023 New Year’s Day race

Well hello all, it has been a long time i haven't been slot racing, let alone being on slotforum. But! finally it seems we're going to make it this year, a christmas holiday track and yes, a new year's day race.
This year the place to lay a temporary track is the old courthouse in which we have our office. In the old courtroom - without heating, alas - is enough space for a decent track.
Due to the absence of heating this year i like to do it old style, fool proof: a classic four lane vintage Fleischmann track. it won't be having a long life this track, but well, who knows it may survive the winter and see next year's spring time. We'll see.
I have to make do with the existing stuff in the office, like tables, some wood sheets cut to fit.
It's all about simplicity this time. I have room and a lot of vintage Fleischmann track, so off i went with a classic four laner.

Here i'll post my first sketch of the track plan. I might add some improvements, but basically this is the layout.
The triangle form came from the arrangement of available office tables, and this shape permits easy walking around the track.
There's room for a gauge 1 railtrack circumnavigating the track. I might make a truss bridge spanning the 500 mm gap to the adjacent tables on the left and the right, on which drinks and food will be placed during the race day.
So a beer serving gauge 1 Marklin train might be very well in the making.

For now i wish you all a happy christmas holiday and i'll keep you posted here with my building progress.

Well I have to wait one more week before the stored boxes are removed, haha.
I cannot help but tweak and draw variants of that section prior to the banked curve.
First one is done with the vintage Polistil 15 degree R3 and the 5 degree ultra wide curve parts, to form a long slight S curve that swings only 20 degrees left and 20 degrees right. Vintage Polistil tarmac is smooth and less grippy so it might look quick but you cannot go flat out.

second try is with Fleischmann R3 curves only, so a 45 degree left / 45 degree right turn but pretty wide because they’re all R3 radius. Looks like a pretty curve too.

I think I like the first one better Duco.
But both are ‘steady Eddy throttle’ curves. Find your trigger position and don’t change it in that part of the layout. So, nice but not so challaging.

Hooray, there’s room for expansion! This wall was totally occupied for storaging boxes and filing cabinets. Now all free, woohoo!

Looks good Duco! Lots of space to expand. Or start your own slotrace club....

Nice flow...is this permanent now?
No, extension track plan is in the making 😊
Still puzzling with the railroad plan around the track, but it’s coming along nicely. I’ll keep you posted here!

Progress! Today I finally found the time to put the table extension in place.
First I removed the railroad track and banked curve supports, the banked curve would stay in place even with an overhang. Then I carefully took out the existing 120 degrees end section, after that I moved the new larger section in place.
For the table construction I used leftovers like pallets, some old pre-used mdf half circle end piece and one already cut up wooden tabletop.

Look at that space, it’s going to be a nice longer main straight 😊

I am curious what the extended track will look like.
The current layout is already one of the nicest I have seen.

I love to see it coming too Spykerman, and thank you for your comment.
No extended track yet, I have to find some time to build it. In the meantime… lunchbreak. Some laps with the Fly Racing BMW M1.

Oh! That beloved old Lamborghini Miura! That's an old Auto Art model, they once came in orange and gold. It's a lovely model indeed.

Once the wheels are trued and new tires fitted it's driveable, but the standard Mabuchi 18K sidewinder has a strange gearing: a thick no idea how many teeth pinion and a relatively small crown wheel. So it accelerates slowly but has an insane top speed and almost no braking. I guess that can be improved by fitting a smaller pinion and bigger crown wheel, more like the standard Scalextrix setup. Like all Auto Art cars it's a true joy for the eye but a pith to make it go well on the track.
On the other side of the M1 is an Auto Art Koenigsegg by the way. Same story as the Miura.

I have several miura kits in 1/24 bout would be nice to have some in 1/32.
This could be a nice match for the Pantera.
