Looking at the market for Merceds-Benz W196 STR RTR and kits there are a few available.

Top Slot TS7108 (RTR)
A2M 15102 (resin kit)
Ghostmodels GM005 (resin kit)

just to name a few.

But sadly they are all the 1954 version with the flat bonnet.

For my collection I need the 1955 version with the new inlet manifold on the right side of the bonnet.

Daimler Benz used their STR car only once that year, on Monza during the Italian GP, where #18 Juan-Manuel Fangio won the race, and #16 Stirling Moss retired after setting fastest lap.

Pattos Place offers this version as a clear plastic body. Preferring resin or fibre glass I wonder whether there are other choices of the W196 STR 1955 version available on the market or not?

Tony - I have checked www.bettaandclassic.com, but despite saying Mercedes W196 STR 1955/56(?) the photo of the fibre glass body clearly shows a plain, flat bonnet. So it must be the 1954 version as well.

Choc-ice - well, yes. But it seems a bit complicated. Then I think I would prefer the clear plastic versions from Patto.

Phil - I agree with you. I have descided for 2 x A2M resin kits and will modify them into 1955 versions.

Thinking is over - action has to take over....

QUOTE (circuittaps @ 17 Sep 2011, 10:04) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Daimler Benz used their STR car only once that year, on Monza during the Italian GP, where #18 Juan-Manuel Fangio won the race, and #16 Stirling Moss retired after setting fastest lap.
These two cars are different, if you want to get it absolutely right it would be worth deciding which one you want .
The Moss car has an intake at the base of the windscreen housing just like the 54 cars, the Fangio hasn't got this intake.
The Fangio car has a rectangular intake to the left the windscreen housing, the Moss car hasn't got this intake.

Phil - this is exactly my idea.

Al - I am aware of these details, and since I plan to build both cars, I will do my very best to show the differences.
