i am currently restoring a scalextric mk1 escort mexico from a pretty sorry state. i quite fancy finishing it off with rs 2000 style stripes rather than the mexico type which seem readily available. does anyone manufacture the rs style decals? i am not quite up to re-creating them myself.

If you've got a full size Mk1 Escort you can get the stripes, I can't find anything for 1/32.

You could always ask the bloke who does the full size decals if he'll let you have a decent image of the artwork that he uses to advertise them on Ebay, you could then print them out on to decal paper at the right size and stick em on.
(the image he uses isn't at a very good resolution) LINK

Easy option, make it a Mexico....

if we were to nit pick , there isnt much really right about the "mexico" at all really. i just think that rs stripes would look better than the mex style on offer. many moons ago i spent a very entertaining day masking up a mates genuine mk1 rs2000 to paint rs stripes on (before the days of readily available and cheap vynil replicas).....i think i would need a trip to the opticians before i could attempt it at 1/32 though!!!

i finally got some paint on the shell , even if its only primer but couldnt resist getting it back on the chassis....only because i couldnt wait to see what it would look like sat on these wheels. i couldnt justify the cost of a set of minilites but i reckon these are just as sweet! they came off a scalex nascar thing and a coat of silver soon sorted them out.

i am still looking for rs-esque stripes (any ideas?) but failing that i spotted this livery in a magazine and this could sneak in as "plan b".

i am blown away how well the shell has turned out now its sat in brilliant gloss white (i cant get a picture that does it justice) and the more i look at it the more i think that a set of chrome/alloy bullet style door mirrors would look really sweet. i have had a nose around the mainstream websites but seem to have drawn a blank , any ideas guys?

though i would get all "cocky" and have a go at masking up a set of "rs" replica stripes. piece of cake down the doors but the front and rear corners were just too fiddly and i had to admit defeat before i made a proper [email protected] up of it. so , i am afraid unless somone can advise me where i could get some decals from , then it may be a case of going to plan "b" graphics or even leave it "nekked white". any thoughts on the bullet door mirrors or am i going to have to get crafty with the milliput?

Carrera make suitable mirrors, as fitted to their McLaren M20, Aston Martin DB5, Opel Commodore Steinmetz, Opel GT Steinmetz and Chevrolet Monza DeKon. All mine came with a spare pair of mirrors, so if you can find a store or someone with spares to sell, you're in luck. Fly's Porsche Carrera 6 mirrors are nice too, but probably harder to find spares.

I haven't got close up pictures of the mirrors, but these may help. The ones fitted to the Opel GT, Mclaren etc have a simple spike underneath to push into a hole in the bodywork, whereas the DB5 ones have a shaped aerodynamic base.

agreed...the current offering from scalextric doesn't look particularly nice but this was more what i had in mind.

dopamine...thanks for the mirror reference pics. if i cant find a set , i'll have to have a crack at making a pair!

dj.....unfortunately , i dont think my IT skills are quite up to making my own decals.

suspense over. i finally found a supplier for the decals i needed (hopalong_sam on ebay , as long as it doesnt break any forum "rules"? no accociation other than being a happy customer). i am really pleased to get the job finished (barring a little light detailing). i think it has turned out quite well considering it was essentially a "scrapper" under two coats of acrylic and a heavy lagging of enamel.
