Hi, I know of 2 clubs in the midlands, Great Barr and Wolvo, yet to visit either as I am just getting into the hobby. Are there any good shops in the midlands that I go and have a browse round when at a loose end on a sat afternoon?

Hi
as far as shops go they are in fast decline.2 have closed in the past 12 months round here, the sole survivor is modelzone in merry hill.

I may have to turn to the web.

If it is still there, you have Hobbyrail in Sutton Coldfield, near to Good Hope Hospital. He is mainly a railway shop ( as the name suggests,) but, last time I was in there he had slotcar stuff from both Hornby ( Scalextric) and Gaugemaster ( Fly).

There was also Sleepers Models on Gravelly lane in Erdington, but, the last time I was down that way it looked like the shop was only being used as a mail drop, but the shop was still full of stock !

These are both a bit of a trek from Cannock, but easy to get to by train as they are both within 10-15 mins walk of a railway station.

Hi, there is a shop in Walsall town centre, not far from the outdoor market that specialises in slot cars and R/C cars, Midland Model centre, Walsall is a 15 minute drive from Cannock, also I believe Roys toyshop in Rubery, Birmingham is still trading (they came up on Google search) and they may still do Scalextric and SCX. I bought an SCX Ford RS200 from there many years ago. Another place is any The Entertainer shop sell Scalextric.

Thanks for replys, I drive so distance is not too much of an issue and also have family in walsall and birmingham. I will probably do most of my buying online but do like to have a wander/browse round a shop now and again.

Thanks for the info on Oaklands club also.

Hobbyrail is still there. Sometimes good for a bargain depending on what's in stock.

Sleepers Models! First time I went there I thought he'd been broken into and ransacked. Turns out it always looks that way ( no offence meant. I love the layout). Great place to go and mooch and also great for finding a bargain.

The Midland Model Centre is no longer but it was something to do with Getslotted which is now aligned with Pendle ( I think) which both have a strong web prescence and are sites well worth looking at.
Ebay! I'll say no more. Once you start looking there your life is over!

Good luck and try to remember to pay the bills before Slot Cars empty your bank account!
