So what cars do you think are missing from the slot racing world? Even more helpful, what cars do you think the manufacturers could make that would help THEM sell more & promote the hobby better?

In the US, I hear complaints from people in the "WOMP" world, and some of the less educated about the 1:32 "plastic" world retailers, talk about the lack of updated NASCAR liveries. NASCAR is a 'league' in which there are stronger driver/brand bonds than any other league or even sport. These rabid fans (not ALL are ********, just most!) are lethal when it comes to debating their favorites. Having Scalextric (or others) keep a continued update on cars, and expand their lineup would be amazing. The diecast industry for NASCAR is HUGE over here, and when it comes to "one off's" for special one race only liveries, the demand gets even stronger. There has been some great custom work done to replicate some current cars using some of the Scalextric plain white cars, but they could make a killing doing it themselves.

The other group that would be a huge hit in the US, especially with the younger crowd.. 8-18+, is the "Fast and the Furious" type cars. Either give them some great cars out of the box, or give them some basic cars, then sell add-on rims, exhaust, engine hop-ups, etc, just like in the real "street racing" scene. The money to be made on this market seems too much too pass up.

So what do you guys think?

Well IMHO the street racing scene is already here! One of the first things club racers do to their cars is replace the engine, transmission, rear axle and rear wheels with parts from the Slot it stable
oh and the tyres get changed too.

What we need to see is a detailed 1:32 DeTomaso Pantera GTS
Yeah baby!! Italian styling mated to US cubic inches in a Vee formation

I hear that NASCAR licensing is ridiculously high. Leave it up to the US to price themselves out of their own markets in things (see Real Estate, Software Development, etc.)

The other choices sound fun for the younger crowds.

Hi Pupkick,

I'm not sure whether my suggestions would be quite fitting in the grand scheme of things!

Lancia S4 - Would be an interesting model, one of the most brutal cars ever to exist. Nice to be modelled with all the engine detail, flailing mud flaps etc, perhaps a rear sidewinder set up.

Old F1 cars including racing cars modelled on famous F1 drivers, Any of Gilles Villeneuve's Ferrari's (a driver sadly forgotten in the Slot car world.) - No magnet necessary.

Stewart/Cevert Tyrell like Beardog's wonderful example (70's F1's are personal favourites
) The VMG F1 cars don't do anything for me, they just look well odd.

Jim Clark etc or any Lotus, both names ignored by the Slot Car World.

BMW M1 BASF Livery, Warhol Art Car etc - A great one for Fly, sitting well with the Capri etc.

I see your thinking with reference to NASCAR's, and agree that it would be nice to see Scalextric produce some new models to compliment & improve upon the existing range. Personally, not sure whether this years ASCAR's were a good move, an imitation of the real deal in my mind.

Fast & Furious - I kind of agree, however I suppose Autoart are to be producing the nearest type of Street racers... ok perhaps not.

Someone mentioned producing 'hop up' parts a while back, low profile wheels, spoilers etc... Would tie in nicely with the above range. Shame current optional extra's are primarily designed for performance & not looks. I want chrome, etched metal bits, phat exhausts etc etc...

Best regards,

Jamie

I definitely agree that NASCAR prices itself out of anything useful. Which is sad when you think of the money that could be made, even for them. The ASCAR stuff is a little.. well.. bleh. I definitely don't see most of this forum going for "real" NASCAR, in racing or in slots, but it's all part of bringing new people, and new money for the makers, in.

Jamie, I agree about the "upgrades".. sure there are performance upgrades with engines and wheels.. but it's not the same as the "Ricer scene" in street racing. Get some basic hondas in fancy colors, then sell some sticker type upgrades, get some chrome looking accessories, etc. A basic car for a decent but affordable price, then make more money on accessories, seems win-win to me.

Pupkick, we could have been separated at birth! Well, apart from the apparent love of Tupperware (Nascar, that is). Here's what is missing in slots. Talk about a global appeal, name the market where Jap cars don't feature, and gaudy repaints a plenty.

Nice call on the BMW M1, the Altaya re-issue with its tampo work is a peach, shame you can't induce some body-rock, and how many repaints are there of that one?

I know these have already been made, but they were crap and need re-doing by someone who knows what they are doing...

Ford Escort Cosworth
Ford RS200
Ford Mustang (GT350 or GT500)
Ford Fiesta (Mk3)
Ford Fiesta (Mk6)

Can't wait until the RX-8, that would have huge potential for wings, body kit, exhaust, lowered, and tuned...

Lotus

PS. And more Lotii...

SCX do a Mazda 787 'Renown' livery.

Theres about 3 on ebay at any given time

Othr than that, It'd be great to see some JGTC cars, and I'd aggree with the 70's-80's F1 cars.
