Missing from Slot Racing?

So what cars do you think are missing from the slot racing world? Even more helpful, what cars do you think the manufacturers could make that would help THEM sell more & promote the hobby better?

In the US, I hear complaints from people in the "WOMP" world, and some of the less educated about the 1:32 "plastic" world retailers, talk about the lack of updated NASCAR liveries. NASCAR is a 'league' in which there are stronger driver/brand bonds than any other league or even sport. These rabid fans (not ALL are ********, just most!) are lethal when it comes to debating their favorites. Having Scalextric (or others) keep a continued update on cars, and expand their lineup would be amazing. The diecast industry for NASCAR is HUGE over here, and when it comes to "one off's" for special one race only liveries, the demand gets even stronger. There has been some great custom work done to replicate some current cars using some of the Scalextric plain white cars, but they could make a killing doing it themselves.

The other group that would be a huge hit in the US, especially with the younger crowd.. 8-18+, is the "Fast and the Furious" type cars. Either give them some great cars out of the box, or give them some basic cars, then sell add-on rims, exhaust, engine hop-ups, etc, just like in the real "street racing" scene. The money to be made on this market seems too much too pass up.

So what do you guys think?

With you on this one Wankel. I recall Aussie Wayne Gardner drove these after he moved on from GP bikes in between smashing up various V8 Supercars.

Perhaps these are missing too From the same page supplied by Wankel

I must say that this has been a fascinating thread, even if it is a little hard to follow in places.....

But, I found this little outburst too holier than thou to pass without comment.

QUOTE (Gaugemaster Controls @ 3 Jun 2004, 18:21)However, (and this is not directed at you meco) it seems that if certain people on this forum did not set out to be arguementative, or to interfere in that which did not directly concern them, the threads would be more informative and there would be less posts like this where I am having to explain myself when I should not have to do so. I am here to give information - if there are those of you don't want to read it or don't believe it, then keep quiet unless you have something relevant and worthwhile to say.

Mate, lighten up. Sometimes your rabid defence of all things FLY and/or the pecuniary interests of Guagemaster (remeber the thread about Preiser figures?) goes too far, almost to the point of bullying. Certainly goes against the principle of freedom of speech IMHO.

However, Cheers

A very valid point you make DaVols. The hobby can be grown in any number of directions and while I wouldn't discount the lure of "fast & Furious" type cars to a certain section of the population, the plain fact is there are just more cashed up (er, ahem, how do I put this tactfully....) "children of the 60's and 70's who wander into a hobby shop, spot a beautifully detailed <INSERT FAVOURITE BRAND HERE> slot car and, well we know the rest.

That (my) generation is more likely to be attracted by an "American Grafitti" tie-in than "Fast and Furious".

Then our poor unsuspecting children insidiously get drawn in
equals market growth.

However, back to the thread. I'm up for Hotrods. 41 Willys, 32-36 Ford Coupes, Fat Fendered rods, LedSleds, that sort of thing.

Where's that jar of Brylcreem...........................................

Cheers
