Hey Guy

I'm new to the hobby was wandering if you pros could help?
I've been browsing the forums with envy and i've seen some pretty crazy layouts. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I thought, what if i make a pretty crazy layou myself?

I had to think about it for quite a while but finally came to a conclusion. It would be a Monaco layout and Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the same table! Of course this wouldn't work out coz one street and ones speedway. But I thought that i would have a rotating table with every fixed. (OF course) I wanna do nascar / indycar, Indianapolis. F1, Monaco. It will be made of MDF (as thin as possible), have working pit lanes and have a full on scenery and also it will be digital. If thats possible with MDF?

I'm hoping that some of you can help me on this one. Please in the comment section below or PM me some pics or layout options.

P.S the area that i have is 5x6m so it would have to fit a 4x5m table the biggest.

If i see that people are intersted in helping me, i will upload some pics of the area it will be in.

THANX Daniel

Hi Daniel
Welcome to the slot forum.

Not sure I've understood your idea of a rotating table - are you talking about a a table that flips over with one layout on the top and the other on the bottom?

4x5m is a big table, it'll need quite a few legs and some quite substantial supports. Not a problem with one fixed table, but I've not got my head round how it would work as a rotating table.
The other thing about a 4x5m table is access to the middle. That's much to far to reach without crawling on the top of it. Tracks that size are normally built with walk ways or access holes in the middle so you can get to the track for building and maintenance.

Yes its doable in MDF, but don't go too thin - I suggest 12mm is suitable.

Ey Up Daniel,

Do you mean a table rotating about a horizontal axis with one track on each side ?.

That is one heck of a project for "a newbie" !!.

Don't forget that a significant characteristic of Monaco is all the elevation changes, you'll need some height to accomodate that element.

ps: are you meeting tonight on the plane ??.

Ey Up Daniel,

having thought a little more, if you were to pivot half way along the short 4m edges, then you would need 2m "swing" beneath, and above, and that is utterly impractical.

Give it some more thought old chap !!.

An even better idea would be to have a double table, the lower table being the relatively flat oval,
the upper table sitting on top, being Monaco, which lifts off and up to the ceiling on pulleys for access to the oval !!.

There you go, solved !!.

How about an oval track with a roadcourse within it. The road course could incorporate most or some of the outside oval. This could easily be done by using a switch to direct cars, depending on what layout is being used.

I think its a good idea , however its logistics isnt .If you made a part of it only to flip while the rest stays the same .You could have the pits and alot of scenery change by flipping the centre part while the two edges of the table stay the same for both tracks.

Do you know billboards with changing pictures? There're rolling triangular rods side by side and every side have own pic. If you have 5x4m table with 20 1x1m flipping modules and three side in every rolling part. I can't even calculate how many different tracks it means...

Hey Guys

I will post some pics of the area asap but i think i might make the area a bit smaller. like 3x4m table or even 2x3m. I still want it to be a rotating table. The way it will work is there will be a rod down the centre of the table with locks on each corner then when i wanna flip it i undo the locks and flip.

Please stay tuned and please give some more advice.

If you want to flip the table there must be space enough under the table to rotate. 2m width needs over 1m height from floor to track. And 3m table needs over 3m room height. If you cut the track to two pieces rotating separately, it could be possible to build and use.
