More Airfix Beetles

This is what happens when passion gets out of hand. A clutch of Airfix Beetles on PCS chassis. Despite appearances no two are the same, and all have different characteristics on track. Fun to build but tricky in parts. Thank you again for your time in looking.

Wow, I wonder, how many Beetles do you have in your collection counselor? What color or livery is the most you like?

This post seems unnending (in a good sense of course), I bet you have all kinds of Beetles, resin, plastic, lexan, etc., Hehehe.

Congrats on that VW collection.

Cheers

Another view of a Beetle that produced more natural gas than most, courtesy of its 5-litre V8 Chevrolet engine.
What class or group was that VW?

Cheers
A couple of 3D-printed chassis arrived today courtesy of Beardy's industrious skill, for which I am most grateful. Both are destined for new Beetle projects, once current work is completed.

3D printing. Fascinating to an old duffer like me. More on this topic anon.
Oh lala! Now thats my game, congrats, you'll gonna love the 3dp chasis.

Cheers
After a morning twonking around with Milliput, Araldite and drills and things, there's a growing possibility that this might become something of a Hebmueller, or at least my version of one. Can't do much more, though, until a Pitlane chassis kit arrives.

My thanks again for your interest.
Looks an amazing eclectic build! Beautiful...

It's daunting to think of the work that's gone into this Heb since yesterday, yet it looks little different. The joys of modelling, eh? Oh, and evidence of butchery below.
Those Fuchs rims really level up the model.

Its getting shape, I like it. Before I knew all your paintings and slot Vw Bugs, I thought there were only two or three versions of the Beetle, now I see I was ignorant of all the versions and variants that were released at their time and my guess is that you have them almost all in slot!

Cheers
Pero cuantos tienes?
Por cierto, ayer leí que se subasta un Beetle original y sin estrenar fabricado en Mejico... aún con los plásticos de protección de los asientos.

But how many do you have?
By the way, yesterday I read that an original and brand-new Beetle made in Mexico is being auctioned ... even with the seat protection plastics.

Recuerdo que alguna vez Trisha dijo que hacía un Beetle por semana, desde hace años y estoy casi seguro que este Tópico debe ser uno de los más largos o el más largo en el foro. 🤔

I remmember Trisha once said that he builds a Beetle every week since some years ago and Im almost sure that this Topic is the longest or one of the most long in SF.🤔

I don't know how many Beetles I've got. I dare not count them, either, because I will then know the answer, which is potentially dangerous, because...

... if Mrs Grumpy slips a truth drug into my tea, she'll know how many there are as well...

... and that would be the thin end of the wedge.
The problem is when your wife knows the price of the little cars and then makes numbers... 😅

Sixty pages in and you are encouraging him to do more? Really?

So it is the longest post, isnt it? 😀
I used to work in an automotive machine shop back in the early 80's. It was also a speed and custom shop where you could buy Holley carbs and Edelbrock intakes, etc. 90% of the cars coming in for upgrades were V-8 muscle cars from the 60's and 70's. All the customers boasted about how fast their cars were. Everyone had a 12-second car even though no one had a time slip to prove it. Why 12-seconds? Because as soon as you go under 12-seconds, the NHRA rules require the car to have a roll bar. Very few people had a roll bar in thier daily driver. We used to call those seemingly false claims of fast cars McDonalds time slips.

I'm alone minding the counter on a quiet day. A baby blue VW Beetle pulls into the parking lot. The sound was not that of a Beetle at all. More like a souped up Porsche. A nice man walks in and wants to order some parts. Admiring his car I asked "Is it fast?". He pulls out a recent time slip from a local drag race track that says 12.5 seconds in the quarter mile. He chuckles as he pulls out another that says 11.5. He says the second run was with Nitrous Oxide. At which point they kicked him off the track and told him to get a roll cage!

A baby blue Beetle was one of the fastest street cars I ever saw back in the early 80's.
Nice story👍
I friend of mine recently bought a VW Beetle as it was his first drive when he was a teenager. To remmember those times he drove it to do a 400km travel with another pal and then back for another 400km.

Last time I saw him I asked how the drive was, and he told me that he would never do that Kind of travel again,as his back ached after the first 100km, also said the Worst of all was the noisy sound from the motor cause when at Full gas(the car only achieved 55 miles/hour as it was mostly slight upwards highway) the metal noise was terrible 😄, it didnt have AC so the heat was making them Sweat a lot too!

He now uses the bug from time to time, but only in the City and only for short travels...

Cheers
Yes please, we want more Bugs!

Thanks, chaps. Your support and positive comments are greatly appreciated. Marvellous. To be continued, therefore, with... a black Heb.

Lots to do yet, but getting there slowly.

Thanks again.
Love the small seats 😀👍
Apart from having to wait for glue and transfers to dry until tomorrow, I think the Hebmueller is probably finished. The skis, incidentally, are optional.

My thanks to you again for your interest.
Thats probably one of the best looking Beetles I have seen in slot! 👌👍

A Beetle I won't be replicating in slot form. Might be a trifle unbalanced.
That would fit perfectly in The Mess😉

Below, a mid-engined 'roof-chop' in David Piper Green complete with a 'goblin hat' to feed air into the induction system. An Airfix slot version would be easy. Anyone fancy a go?
Cant imagine what would be like to drive one of those cars, I mean stock Beetles had around +-50 horsepower? How much did they gain from this and other mods people actually did?

Without powerstering, Abs, etc, should have been a real challenge to race one of this.

Cheers
Three? ... Maybe four? :O

I guess that you omitted to say "THOUSAND" :p

Many thanks for your most kind comments, Matthew, and my thanks to the chaps who've also commented above.

Pics below of the finished car. Exhausts, interior and bits and pieces finally done. Will give it a go on the Mess later when sundry beads of glue have dried.

My thanks to all for your interest.
Nice shinny glossy finish!

Looks like just out of the dealer, congrats! 👍

I smell and hear danger. The distinct bouquet of bleach and other cleaning horrors is in the air, and the vacuum cleaner has made a guest appearance. Mrs Grumpy is fixing things that can't be broken, so I'm awf to the Mess for a Beetle/Porsche morn.

No point in explaining that I cleaned and vacuumed yesterday, because the reply is always: "Well, I want it done properly."
Well, that could be Worst... Imagine if She takes a cloth and begins cleaning the dust from the windshields and bodies, then you'll have lots of anthenas, mirrors and everything that can be broken in a slot car toghether in an ashtray or in the bin...😮

Ha! Chuck Norris, now thats a name I havent heard in a while hehehe.

Recently bought a pair of sunglasses from Carrera, very aviator style(like the Senna age), my wife says I look old, She preffers Kimmi Raikkonen "Ferrarista" style from 2018 (a pair was gifted to me by one client that year, which She requisitioned of course), so my guess is She wouldnt like Norris style either...
