More Airfix Beetles

This is what happens when passion gets out of hand. A clutch of Airfix Beetles on PCS chassis. Despite appearances no two are the same, and all have different characteristics on track. Fun to build but tricky in parts. Thank you again for your time in looking.

Really sorry to hear of your new, and hopefully, temporary relocation.
I hope your visit to local hospital will have you swiftly "repaired", "serviced" or otherwise overhauled and returned to more homely and pleasant surroundings, even if it comes with regular abuse and ear bashing from Mrs, Grumpy!!.
At least its home.

My Best Wishes Laurence, for a speedy recovery.

PS I hope it had nothing to do with heating of spray cans and bright grinding sparks....damn Elfs must have been asleep on the job!

Regards
Martin

Thank you, chaps. Most kind of you and, as usual, your comments are greatly appreciated. Got a truly great team looking after me, even if they don't approve of my wearing Mrs Grumpy's going-away jamas and dressing gown. Ne'er mind.

And what nurses. People from all over the world, who've survived me - so far. Abfab.

Thanks again, chaps!

Normal ops temporarily suspended, chaps. Apologies. Nothing to report on 1:32 progress while I languish in the Fools' Department of the local hospital under adult supervision. Mrs Grumpy says she'll seize the opportunity to put all my Beetles on eBay, whilst I've advised her that she could, therefore, be swapping places with me in hospital.

All a bit of a bore but the real world often is, eh? Please keep me abreast of Oz this weekend. Plentiful supply of electricity in this medical emporium, but nothing in the way of a fool's lantern. Thanks.
Sorry to hear that Laurence, hope you get well and wish you a speedy recovery, soon you’ll be ready for more Force 10 comands no doubt mate😉

Best regards

The cup of human kindness overflows. Thank you all again, chaps, for your fantastic support. Hope normal service resumes very soon. Mrs Grumpy scheduled to visit later, so another Force 10 en route for wearing 'odd socks.'

Ah well...

My grateful thanks, Martin. Most kind of you. Life in cardio generates roughly the same sort of excitement as an Austin 7 flat out down Mulsanne* which is why I can't wait to return to the Mess.

* Or an Austin 7 anywhere else.

Lots of room, I'd go for it:devilish:, can't be worse than a force 10 from Mrs Grumpy o_O. Do you have a co-driver(y) or would it just be solo practice(n)

PS,
If Uncle comes a visiting will he get past the front entrance? 😄

If you do manage to sneak a track in Laurence, may I suggest make sure its good old analogue, as the newer fandangled wireless controller jobbies may play havoc with your monitors, sending the nursing staff scurrying with crash carts and such........False alarm!!.....False Alarm!!
You would be in serious hot water then.

PS
I think I know your Consultant.....just make sure you run when he snaps that glove on!!!

Laughing is now hurting! Monitor alarms bleeping constantly. Cardio staff in a flurry...

Thankfully, visiting restricted to one (sane) person per day. Uncle Bonkers specifically excluded as a severe hygiene risk. I can just picture that idiot sitting here in muck-encrusted wellies, top hat and threadbare tails. No ta...

God speed Odd Socks!

Howz the food?
Got a view out that winder?
Same damnable uncomfortable furniture as American hospitals, barely makes a fair valise.

Notables: Plotting your escape. Green means go. Red means stop. I see the Fire Exit marked in green. Here in the States they are marked in red.

During last years four day visit, first thing they try is to take away your pants and shoes. Not anticipating surgery, I declined. NOT being able to get my pants off is how I quickly discovered their new blood thinner gave me horrendous edema/pain.

I was permitted to walk about the ward, which I did every hour on the hour. General boredom stoking my fear of atrophy forced me to jamb the latch on the stairwell, so I could work up and down the stairs a bit, with the missus watching me of course. It was glass sided affair with natural light, and outside rather than regurgitated pestilence from the HVAC system. Being on the 5th floor was as close to "outside" as I was going to get, short of getting to the roof.

All fun and games until someone came up from the lower floor; and my cardboard shim fell to the floor, before the missus could snatch the door from latching. A dour, waddling Nurse Ratchet administrative type was forced to heist her sacroiliac, leave her station, to let us back in.

The big bad wolf officiously huffed and puffed and tried to blow my house down, by reading me the riot act, and staring me down with extra stink eye; inquiring as to what I thought I was doing.

I played the "just had a stroke card" (mild), and assured madame fat arse that I just needed some fresh air and space, and wasnt really trying to escape her care.

Curiously, where their cocktail of three meds couldnt, my daily cardio routine and sugar abstinence took my resistant hypertension from pressure washer to human in a few short months.

Keep on trucken' Lawerence!

Practice 1 in Oz beams down from space in 10 minutes here. Should be interesting to see the track changes.
Best wishes for a favorable outcome. By the way, if you haven’t figured it out yet, the secret to prompt attention from the nursing staff is to briefly pinch off an IV tube triggering the alarm followed by “While you’re here….”. Much better than the call button.

I spotted this a short while ago and determined it could be viewed in one of two ways:

1. Absolute sacrilege which will ultimately incur the wrath of the "VW Beetle Gods", or,

2. A novel re-design and re-purposing of an old broken item.

One thing is for sure, in my opinion there is a serious flaw in maties design.

If his chosen source of power decides at an inopportune moment to let loose and "backfire", I don't want to be sitting where he is sitting!

I go with No.1 so it may just be Karma for doing that to a beetle.

PS: I heard there is a "turbo" mod. option available.
This involves feeding the "motor" hot chillies an hour before use, but it did come with a health warning both for the "motor" as well as driver, passengers and anyone else within a 15 yard radius!

Hope you are feeling better today Laurence.

Cheers
Martin

Hope your better soon so you can return to the Mess and indulge in more Porsches and Beetles to avoid more Force 10s.

You can play the "I'm ill" card with Mrs Grumpy but no guarantee it will work.
My grateful thanks to you, too, Matthew. Desperate to return to the Mess, especially since Mrs Grumpy threatened to put all my slot cars, and me, on eBay. "Gorby for sale. Five quid. Buy it now." Bl**dy cheek.

Life in cardio not riveting but home for Easter with luck. Apparently, there's a new Airfix Beetle kit awaiting my deliberation. Excellent.
