Interesting what Keith and Laurence say about Vw being “poor man vehicle”, nowdays they want $30k USD for a Jetta! It’s absurd, that’s why (price) among other things I have never liked Vws , except for the Golf and Karman(and some Bugs of course)😉

As an anecdote back in 2003, I was looking for new car as a recently independent man, so took a look at the Jetta mkiv and the Peugeot 206xs, at the end got the 206 as it came with sunroof , 4wheel abs discs, ABS, TCS, EBD, aluminum accents and sporty seats whereas the Jetta came with four wheels, a stick and a driving wheel, for the same price, oh! And fugly wheel inserts 😆

Ow Gawd, and another rediscovered artefact in the form of a Pitlane chassis ready to go. Gosh, the things you forget when you're in a hurry to remember where Hungary might be these days. View attachment 334535
It takes years to master the skill of feigning disappointment at someones imminent departure and there is a fine line between success and failure.

Show keenness and be too eager to offer help to plan their trip and pack the suitcase caravan, and you receive an earbashing..."Are you trying to get rid of me?" or "What are you planning to do while I'm away? You better not be partying with your idiot friends".....etc, etc.

Show too much disappointment and it blows up in your face when you hear the reply....."Awwww you're going to miss me? maybe I shouldn't go then?"

Dohhhhh!!!

So far it sounds as though you have it about right (y)

Good points but... Mrs Grumpy departed for the Hungarian capital about two hours ago, and I confess that my attempt at going solo have not thus far been a success.

"Don't forget to feed the cat, water the plants, eat your lunch and stay away from that wretched axe..."

Sound advice I should have heeded, and didn't. Now I'm wondering what sort of mess I can make of a couple of Beetle body mounts...

That ax should make quick work of the beetle body mounts if you keep your fingers out of the way (although it appears that is already untimely advice).
A dab of Araldite should put things right.

Clearly the lack of painting time has created a backlog on the chassis line. Don't let the fools think they have time to raid the chip van again.

Chip van doing a roaring trade, aided by cold weather and a bloke with menacing weapons, and a large wife with a severe attitude problem.

A chainsaw! What a thought. A useful tool but, alas, I have an illustrious history with power tools. The very mention of even a small dremel is enough to alert Mrs Grumpy into putting emergency services on standby. I'm still reminded of the time I put an axe through my fingers and failed to notice until...

Well, you can guess the rest of this sorry tale...

I presume the Araldite is for the body mounts and not the finger 😂

I was going to suggest super glue but may be not:whistle:

The electric telephone even functions between Herefordshire and Budapest. I know this because Mrs Grumpy's already been on at me 'smorn. "Have you brushed your teeth, fed the cat, stopped bleeding, cut any more fingers off, burnt the kitchen beyond recognition, spoken to ill- meaning women...?"

Perhaps now I can return to the line drawing of a Beetle I just found in the usual piles of junk. 'Sruth!

Let's just say that three fingers of the local spirits have me in a celebratory mood.....but no chassis / body mounting tonight. That would be an odd car indeed.
Just think, it could have been a measure of 4 fingers and a thumb, had it not been for an earlier mishap with that axe!
I always try and make sure the person at the bar serving me has a full set of digits.

Something to take our minds off axes and alcohol.

Only Beetles allowed, and possible inspiration for a wider choice of colours for forthcoming Beetle projects, even 2-tone/colour.
Not only do these look good, they sound good and go well to boot, even recovering from a seemingly unrecoverable tail slide at a few points along the way.
