I hope Captain H doesn't mistake either freshly finished bonnet for the bow of a ship awaiting launch and crack that bottle he's holding across either, otherwise you will have some serious bodywork repairs to perform even before you set a tyre on track.

These Beetles are extraordinarily quick around the Mess for several reasons, and are usually raced against other saloons with a similar spec.They go so well because they're very light in weight, have low gearing (helped by small-diameter wheels), and are fitted with superb tyres from PCS.

We also run handicap races. If, for example, a Beetle is up against an NSR 917, the Porsche has to complete three extra laps. Each heat is 15 laps (18 for the 917) and produces close and fraught battles, especially if Gandhi spills chips all over the Mess.

Handicapping is a good way of discovering all sorts of things about slot cars that I recommend, especially after imbibing a few large ones with Captain Haddock.
